Only in Philadelphia

This forum is for talking about non-music-related stuff that the DBT fanbase might be interested in. This is not the place for inside jokes and BS. Take that crap to some other board.

Here's a real Philly story. The awesome and 100% true story of Joey Coyle, the South Philly punk who found $1.2 million in cash that literally fell off an armored truck, went on a four-day meth bender, gave away the money to drug dealers, his friends and the mob (for "safekeeping") and eventually got busted by the feds while boarding a flight to Mexico. Of course a Hollywood movie was made (starring John Cusack).

1981: Joey Coyle wasn’t looking for $1 million. Until it fell off a truck

As the driver slowed to maneuver around it, Coyle opened his door and righted the container. The lid flaps split, and two canvas bags labeled “Federal Reserve Bank” spilled out.

He stuck one foot on the asphalt and pulled the sacks into the car.

After rolling into the shadows between waterfront warehouses, Coyle tore open the bags with a ballpoint pen. The kid in the back leaned over Coyle’s shoulder, and the driver’s eye’s widened at the view: tightly wrapped cellophane bundles of hundred-dollar bills.

"Oh, man!" Coyle said. "What am I into now?"

He had hit the South Philly lottery: money that literally fell off a truck.

It coulda/shoulda been a DBT song.

One of my best friends in Austin was obsessed with, among other things, the Mafia, and he was always talking about Little Nicky. Dude knew it all, he could tell you every clam bar in which some mafioso got gunned down.

Netflix has the entire series (not sure if they have the season that just started). Just began rewatching from beginning. The early episodes feel strange with no Frank

I probably watch 10+ episodes of Sunny per week. It's my favorite show of all time.

Everyone was dressed so nice, and we looked like we were dressed from Philly.

Wing Bowl 2017

The winner ate 409 chicken wings. And someone else ate 5.5 lbs of steak and potatoes in 3 mins and 17 seconds.

Said guest of honor, wrestler Ric Flair:
“Wow, Philadelphia looking good. I probably have some children in the audience here.
Get drunk, eat chicken wings, then take your woman home and do your thing! Woo!"

I went the year the Eagles were in the Super Bowl (2004... sigh), and can comfortably state that Wing Bowl is an event you surely want to miss.

It is as though a higher power lifts the corners of the tri-state area, and all the shit trickles downhill to the Stadium.

That said, not many cities can sell out a 22k-seat arena every year for a competitive eating contest at 6:00 AM. I believe that strippers also converge on the area "clubs" and there is a pilgrimage after Wing Bowl. I can handle 3-days in Athens, but 3 hours at Wing Bowl is too much.

I'm only disappointed that she considered us equivalent in the grab-ass-ability department, when I'm clearly much prettier.

Well, she gave up on me after only one grab but persisted with you for a while. I was merely an opener/ice-breaker to work up to the main act.

The Main Act was too nice for too long, and very grateful when the grabasser became vertically comatose.

It is also quite possible/probable there was momentary right-left confusion, leading to right-sided gropage when left was intended...
