Long term float trip, BK? Looks fun.

Heading out to Colorado/Utah tomorrow. A couple of 14ers, and a day in Arches National Park are on the docket. Should yield some great shots.

Clams, that looks like paradise.

Had to think about 14ers, but now I get it. Arches is awesome. I assume you know Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point are right there too. Not to mention Moab. Must be hot as balls there right now. Enjoy.

We're staying in Moab the night before Arches.

I love that area, Ed Abbey country. I've backpacked in grand gulch(owl canyon) and escalate (hells canyon) years ago. Floated the Green river but didn't make it to the Colorado because I hurt my leg. The 'hoodoos' are cool in Arches. Hope you have a great time!

I'm heading out to spend the night in an old fire lookout, Girard Ridge lookout. It's an amazing location with breathtaking views of Castle Crags and Mt. Shasta. Here's a pic from the USFS site. I'll post my own later. Hope to capture some long exposure pics of the night sky.

This is awesome BK. My parents spent five summers before I was born as Forest Service Lookouts on top of mountains in the Boise National Forest. There aren't a lot of these lookouts left anymore as satellites have made them obsolete.

Awesome pics, Clams! You are front runner for Dad of the Year. 8-)

Beebs, I think that lookout you posted is badass.

Brett, Yes! Save the McCloud! 8-)

Here's a panoramic shot from the lookout. Click the pic for the full size shot.

That's what we got. The one left here in Fruithurst has been missing half the steps since before I was old enough to climb it; kinda scary when there's a big section of 'em missing so you have to step on the small metal braces that originally held the steps on.
I used to would climb up the outside of those, but I don't know that I'd walk up the stairs anymore.

We went on our annual "Fall colors camping trip" this weekend at Strawberry Reservoir in Northern Utah. We didn't go to our usual spot as the roads at 9000' feet tend to get a little greasy after a few days of rains and snow. Usually the Aspens are peaking at this time of year, but this is the dullest year for Fall colors that I can remember. Looks like it's going to go from green to gray to gone this year.

Turns out you don't have to run faster than the bear in a Grizzly attack. You just have to run faster than the guy next to you.

Why thank you kindly. I have had her since 1999, but she had been parked since '07. After 2+ years of restoration projects and a fair amount of $, she is back on the road. Only about 20 more trips before I will actually have gotten more use out of her than hours put in restoring her.

On Saturday some of my best buds and I got together for a day of goose hunting. It was a beautiful morning.

Image

We had everything we needed.

Image

"The Goosemaster" called the shots.

Image

We joked and laughed as much as always, but were on our best behavior out of consideration for our guest.

Image

We had a good day... made better by the fine work of Gunner the Lab and young Thomas, official shell picker upper.

Not forever, just for now.

Skipped out of work early a couple Fridays ago and headed out into the woods for a few hours.

Black Falls. The largest in Iowa. Ran dry last fall during the fall drought, but they should be raging again when all this snow melts. It's not a spring fed stream, so it operates solely off runoff. There are also parts of the stream that fall into a sinkhole, only to reemerge several miles downstream.
