Saturday morning I'm showing off for a 7 day canoe trip in northern Minnesota's Boundary Waters. We're paddling up into Lac LaCroix. Rumor has it it has more walleye than it can hold, so here's hoping.

Just got home from a trip to the Coast. My brother and I took the kayaks out for a little saltwater fishing action. In less than 2 hours here's the haul.

My first striped bass. Rhode Island. Caught it just after sunrise in the rocks along the shore near Point Judith. Used a swimmer with a treble hook.

Eight point buck down by eight o'clock this morning. No pics right now. Great way to start deer season on a perfect fall day here in Georgia.

Re: Outdoor Thread
Just returned from three days in Yellowstone National Park. We tent camped just outside of the park boundary as the campgrounds inside the park have closed for the season. It was 22 degrees inside the tent on Saturday morning, but quickly warmed up to the high 60's by afternoon. We saw Trumpeter Swans, Bighorn Sheep, Mountain Goats, Bison, Elk, Coyote's (sadly no wolves, but not for lack of trying), a Bald Eagle and my first Grizzly Bear. My brother scared something out of our camp when we returned to camp after dark Saturday night and he swears it was a bear. Nothing like drifting off to sleep knowing that the next sound you hear could be Grizzly claws ripping through tent nylon. Adds a little special something that you just don't get many other places. Can't wait to go back and backpack into the back country.

Getting geared up for turkey season. It appears to be shaping up to be a good one. Seeing lots of gobblers. I can't wait.
Also getting primed up for some trout fishing in the mountains come spring. Before that though I'm taking the family up to Pine Mountain which is only a little over an hour north of here. Going to do some fishing at FDR State Park and take the youngun paddle boating while we're there.
Hoping to do some hiking during my trout fishing trip and maybe camp overnight. I'll have to that solo though. The wife ain't much on tents.

Re: Outdoor Thread
I spent a couple of nights on Florida's St Joseph Peninsula. The last several miles of the peninsula are a nature preserve with no motor traffic. I hiked about fives miles in and set up camp. The next morning I walked out to the beach and hiked along the Gulf down around the tip of the peninsula and back down the bay side of the peninsula to pick up the "trail" again (old sand road built years ago by the military) and make it back to camp for another night. It's a fun trip and hiking at the beach is a nice change of scenery, but the starting pack weight is brutal. There is water all around you, but none is treatable, so you have to pack in all your water for the duration.
You're not allowed to camp right on the beach (too windy anyway), so I was about a quarter mile off the beach.
There are always lots of birds here.
Obligatory beach sunset pic.

I've gotten out in the woods a little this spring. These pics are all from various areas in the Iowa Driftless. Most within 30 minutes of my house.

I did an overnighter at Virgin Falls in Tennessee over the weekend.

Not the pristinity (word?) of nature that we usually have hear, but with spring hitting hard on the northern plains, we've been in the field for a week, and Clams loves the tractor porn.
Pull-behind rock picker. This device lets us remove the equipment damaging gifts the glaciers left us when they gave us this amazing soil. It is not the most efficient method of rock removal, but is a little lower impact and thus suitable on ground that's already been tilled this spring.
The corn planter pulling in for fuel.
Our fuel rig. 999 gallons of diesel fuel on board. 1 short of needing a special endorsement to drive it. I don't get to run it much, but on Sundays the guy on my skid-loader based rock picking crew have the day off, and I do this. It's fun.
That pick up is being towed behind the fuel truck. We set up most of our pickups and SUVs to be tow-able so we can leave vehicles in strategic locations for guys working late into the night, without having two people tied up in shuttling.
Dry fertilizer application. We apply minerals to the soil prior to planting and either work them in with tillage, or let rain get them into the soil.
Howard County sunset.
