If my mother had known what I was actually doing...
35 years ago today the old freaks (one of of them was probably as old as 19) I was fortunate enough to be hanging out with came to a fork in the road, in Alabama. Half of them were staying in Birmingham to see Led Zeppelin that night and half were going on to Atlanta to see the Grateful Dead at the Fox Theater. Since we had seen the Dead the night before in Tuscaloosa, I stayed for Zeppelin. As a ninth grader, I was just happy to be there.
I remember this clearly about that day: I liked the approach to life the old freaks had.
