The Neverending Thread for Political Shit

This forum is for talking about non-music-related stuff that the DBT fanbase might be interested in. This is not the place for inside jokes and BS. Take that crap to some other board.

Meant to post this a while back but forgot. I think it's as good a statement on the Kapernick pseudo controversy and more generally the improper use of alleged "patriotism" (or not) as a political weapon. Written by a serving officer and West Point graduate which I think carries extra credibility in this context.

From my understanding, Manafort is facing 10-15yrs. $18mm in money laundering. Both state and federal charges. So, potentially if he receives a pardon, instead of going to the Federal Pen, he would go to Rikers. (enjoy!) Bail set at $10,000,000. Papadouplous pled guilty in July and has been working on a plea. So, potentially this dude has been wearing a wire.

It does not appear that Muller is fucking around.

Never mind getting Trump out of office. What we really need to do is to get his DNA out of the gene pool. Stat. Did u see Jr's tweet about teaching his daughter socialism by making her share her candy? You know, the candy she got for free just for showing up? The guy is so dumb he doesn't even know what he doesn't know, but he does love to display his stupidity for public consumption on a regular basis, which to me is stupidity squared.

Not to mention his improper use of to/too in a tweet meant to "teach" her something.

There are some high-quality responses to Jr on that thread

I’m going to send my kid out with her bag already full and tell her she earned it so she can learn about arrogance and privilege.

Or you could give 90% of her candy to the one richest kid in the neighborhood. It's never too early to teach her about Republicanism.

I'll take 1/2 my kids candy, store it in a Cyprus tax shelter, then declare bankruptcy to teach her about capitalism

...or, you could tell her you're taking it to help kids with cancer but then leave a wrapper trail so she can learn how Trump charities work

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott pushed back Monday on the notion that the mass shooting in his state should prompt harsher gun restrictions.

“We have evil that occurs in this world, whether it be a terrorist who uses a truck to mow down bikers in New York City, whether it be a terrorist who uses bombs or knives to stab people, or other terrorist who use vehicles, whether it be in Nice, France, or any other place in the entire world, who mow down people,” Mr. Abbott, a Republican, said on CBS News.

When asked about how to keep guns out of hands of possibly dangerous people, Mr. Abbott said, “You work with God.”

I've always liked this quote from social anthropologist Arjun Appadurai:

“It is the most artificial thing that humans have ever built,” says Appadurai of nationalism. “That seems the most natural.”

I know patriotism isn't nationalism, but in this case, I think the quote applies. ;)

Here is Gov. Abbot's quote/tweet from 2015. He is a real jackass.

In 2015, Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas tweeted that he was “embarrassed” that his state was ranked second (behind California) in requests to buy new guns, albeit still with one million requests. “Let’s pick up the pace Texans,” he wrote.

There's more- supposedly today on NPR he said this:

“The tragedy is worsened that it happened in a church, a place of worship.”

As if getting shot to death in a church is even more heinous and awful than getting shot to death at a concert, or a movie, or an elementary school, or a high school, or a community college, or an ACC university, or McDonald's, or Luby's, or a post office, or a night club....

My response to the preceding few posts is that a country ruled by morons cannot long endure. And the current political realities give the morons way, way too much influence and control over my life and the lives of my loved ones. I still say that the best first step to correcting this imbalance is a law which says that no state can receive more in federal funds than it pays to the federal government.

I put this in this thread as a "file under culture wars" thing. Can you imagine anyone even proposing a program like this in the US?

Check your Representative's vote of H.J. Res 40. This resolution removed the following restrictions: "Current law prohibits firearm sale or transfer to and purchase or possession by a person who has been adjudicated as a mental defective."

If they are a Yea vote, please call their office and demand an explanation. 26 men, women, children and babies are lying dead on a church room floor not 100 miles from my house, murdered by a 'mental defective' with an assault rifle.

I'm really concerned about being covered w/ pieces of WWCD's gray matter, but nonetheless I thought this was worth posting. The actual, I'm not kidding, Speaker of the goddamn United States House of Representatives on criticism that "thoughts and prayers" are not enough:

“It’s disappointing, it’s sad, and this is what you’ll get from the far secular left. People who do not have faith don’t understand faith, I guess I’d have to say. And it is the right thing to do is to pray in moments like this, because you know what? Prayer works. And I know you believe that, and I believe that and when you hear the secular left doing this thing, it’s no wonder you have so much polarization and disunity in this country when people think like that.”

Just to be clear because these assholes twist everything out of recognition: There's nothing wrong w/ thoughts & prayers. But thoughts and prayers accompanied by adamant and continued refusal to act in the face of an epidemic is something else entirely.

Ryan's one year take from the NRA: $170,000.

Yep, there's no wonder at all about why we have such polarization and disunity.
