The Neverending Thread for Political Shit

This forum is for talking about non-music-related stuff that the DBT fanbase might be interested in. This is not the place for inside jokes and BS. Take that crap to some other board.

I stopped listening at "minions"

I'm sure Savage went on to rail against Bush for using 9/11 to strip us of all sorts of Constitutional freedoms (Patriot Act, TSA, etc.)

Many conservatives are wholly unable to distinguish between social outrage and government persecution.

Also, there's a huge difference between calling Sarah Palin a cunt and calling all educated women sluts. Cunt, for all the vile connotations that word has, is at its a root a gender specific way to say "asshole". Its not a specific accusation of anything. Its just saying "I think you're a bad person" in a really mean way. When you call someone a "slut" it makes a very specific accusation of their sexual behavior. Its a far more specific accusation.

At the end of the day, how is public outrage (or lack thereof) in either situation a sign of persecution of anyone? People are free to have their opinions and express them. Rush has every right to say what he did, and people who were offended have every right to be. He made a blanket statement about a really large segment of our society. Maher has every right to say what he did, and people who were offended have every right to be. However, he gave a pure opinion statement about one specific public figure, and public figures are less protected from any kind of defamatory statements than the rest of us.

If you can't see how different this is than making a pretty specific accusation about a wide segment of society, than I can't help you. But I suspect to an extent that LJ just like to argue about some of this stuff and doesn't actually believe it.

Here's what about five minutes of research on Michael Savage quotes turned up. No comment from me. They speak for themselves.

"California, unfortunately, is in the hands of the far-left homosexual mafia. They unfortunately don't even understand what's good for them. They don't understand that voting on the left side of everything is actually in their disinterest, not in their interest -- that if they gay community ever understood what's in their interest they'd become conservatives, by and large. But they are also very confused, as anyone could figure out by their death-style."

"Oh, so you're one of those sodomites. You should only get Aids and die, you pig; how's that? Why don't you see if you can sue me, you pig? You got nothing better to do than to put me down, you piece of garbage? You got nothing to do today? Go eat a sausage, and choke on it. Get trichinosis. Now, do we have another nice caller here who's busy because he didn't have a nice night in the bathhouse who's angry at me today? Get me another, put another sodomite on. No more calls? I don't care about these bums; they mean nothing to me. They're all sausages."

"The gay and lesbian mafia wants our children. If it can win their souls and their minds, it knows their bodies will follow. Of course, it wants to homosexualise the whole country, not just the children. This is all part of the war that is going on. Maybe you don't want to face up to it, but it's a very real war. It's being inflicted on the American people by the radical gay lobby, which is now everywhere"

"…You have to explain this to them in this time of mental rape that's going on. The children's minds are being raped by the homosexual mafia, that's my position. They're raping our children's minds."

"Don't you understand what's a stake? ...Don't you understand the sick perverts [homosexuals] are killing all of us? ...unless this is stopped, unless the gay agenda is curtailed... you're not gonna have your own children eventually... your father would have taken a day off from pipe fitting and he would have gone in there with blood in his eyes... he would have gone crazy! ...That's how deballed you are, you're like a department store dummy most of you."

"Only... an outright ban on Muslim immigration, laws making the dissemination of enemy propaganda illegal, and the uncoupling of the liberal ACLU can save the United States. I would also make the construction of Mosques illegal in America, and the speaking of English only in the streets of the United States.... I truly believe that is a prescription for survival..." Immigrants are "not assimilating. They're not going on to become Americans... they're going on the hate this country. They're going on to hate the language. They're going on to spit on the culture. That's a reality."

"Liberalism is, in essence, the HIV virus, and it weakens the defense cells of a nation. What are the defense cells of a nation? Well, the church. They've attacked particularly the Catholic Church for 30 straight years. The police, attacked for the last 50 straight years by the ACLU viruses. And the military, attacked for the last 50 years by the Barbara Boxer viruses on our planet."

“To fight only the al-Qaida scum is to miss the terrorist network operating within our own borders … Who are these traitors? Every rotten radical left-winger in this country, that’s who.”

“Christianity has been one of the great salvations on planet Earth. It’s what’s necessary in the Middle East. I think these people need to be forcibly converted to Christianity.”

To "save the United States," lawmakers should institute "outright ban on Muslim immigration" and on "the construction of mosques."

"90 percent of the people on the Nobel Committee are into child pornography and molestation, according to the latest scientific studies."

The U.S. Senate is "more vicious and more histrionic than ever, specifically because women have been injected into" it.

On the Norway shooter: "This has all the appearances of a cover-up," Savage told WND. "They created their Reichstag fire. They found their Timothy McVeigh. They created their Jack Ruby. How could one man have blown up the downtown and then raced to the island to kill the teens?
"This is likely a fabrication of the Labour Party, who needs to hold onto power to enforce their multi-culturalist, Muslim-favoring, anti-nationalist views," he continued, "especially in light of the earlier 'credit' for this atrocity claimed by the radical Muslim group whose leader they were threatening to deport.
"The official story defies logic in the following sense as well," he continued, "if this lone right-winger hated Muslims, as the New York Times is reporting, then why did he slaughter his own people and not Muslims?" Savage said "Norway's 9/11" could have been stopped, "but it grew far too long, nourished by the bile of Eurosocialism."
"I hoped that incidents like this," he said, "will lead Europeans to come to the defense of their own civilizations and clamp down on the hate and intolerance that takes perverse advantage of European tolerance and openness."

He might not be vulgar, but when you're claiming that the "homosexual mafia" is trying to "rape our children's minds", I'd say that's stooping pretty low.

But yeah, he's just an entertainer. Just like Maher, Limbaugh, etc. The only problem with this kind of entertainment are the people who take it as gospel.

There's disagreement and then there's the shit Iowan posted, which is offensive on several levels. You can't distinguish the difference between a guy talking about conservative political agenda vs. the vile shit coming out of Savage's mouth? Then add on the notion (unproven, mind you) that he doesn't really believe it, that he's just an "entertainer".....it's about as low as you can get.

But you're right, wrekkr. Not believing that homosexuals are destroying our country is just me chugging that kool-aid

I think you have it backwards, Slip. Politics gave us a country. Politics gave us the Constitution. Politics gave us "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." The 1st Amendment. The 14th Amendment. The 19th Amendment. An independent judiciary. The Federalist Papers. Abraham Lincoln. Land grant colleges (i.e. your state university). Compulsory education. The Civil Rights Acts. Social Security.

The problem is that we used to be great at politics. Then we were good at it. Now we suck at it.

The pursuit of religious freedom (or freedom in general) & ultimately our burning desire to break loose from the long arm of Britain (taxation w/o representation) & the courage & passion to win that freedom; is what gave us our country. Some well-to-do farmers & patriots from the various colonies (mostly Virginia & Massachusetts), shrewdly formed the 3 branches of our government (the checks & balance concept) & drew up a list of basic laws that we pretty much still live by. They bent over backwards to ensure their new country would be equal for everybody & that no individual or faction could use political favor (i.e.money) to gain an unfair advantage. The only politics I see in all this is where the big states & the little states got together on the House & Senate thing; and to me that just further points out how shrewd our forefathers were (what's your beef with those guys, Swamp?). Mostly, these were the same cats who 11 years earlier, had written the battle cry to Britain. Never before or since, have fighting words been more eloquently stated. Not only did they tell Britain to fuck off, but they laid the groundwork for what would ultimately be the greatest country this world has ever known. I hold THIS truth to be self evident: That life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness is just about the most apolitical concept they could've concocted. The Constitution certainly wasn't built on compromise. It was built on the hope that we wouldn't repeat the same mistakes we had just escaped from. Everything was hunky dory.

Then we tried to actually elect our leaders & that's where it all went south. Parties were formed (odd, but telling, how there's no mention of them in the Constitution). From the Federalists & the Whigs, on through to the Republicans & the Democrats; they have forced their agendas upon us in the guise of a representative government. You mention Lincoln, who truly was a great leader & who would probably not have emerged from Illinois had it not been for politics. For every Lincoln though, there is a Buchanan, Harding or Bush foisted upon us (because that's the best candidate the poorly run controlling parties can come up with). They don't care as much about the mutual advancement of We The People, as they do about their own chances for re-election (or how much of their agenda can they get away with & still get re-elected). Only war seems to bring us all together (and not always even then). You claim politics is what made our country great. I think we became a great country in spite of the politics. Innovation & enterprise, & being a country young enough & open enough to allow almost unchecked growth; is what made this country great. Inventors & pioneers & artists & free thinkers is what made this country great. Brave men & women, who fought & died to ensure our continued freedom, is what made this country great. The politicians have mostly just retarded the progress of what was a nearly flawless original design.

I'm not sure what it would take to pull out of this death spiral (and yes, I think we can fall apart just as quickly as we grew). It seems like we jumped on the party system, before exploring other options (and sadly settled for the 2 party system). More parties? It's not likely that would be much better, as the new parties would probably just push their agendas (which by the way, never seem to truly reflect the opinions or needs of the constituents who elected them). Perhaps a 3 way split would lead to more compromise & bi-partisanship. I'm not holding my breath for that scenario (even though I vote 3rd party or Independent, religiously). How about no parties? As much as I like that concept, it is probably unworkable. The best looking rich guys would always be President (and Senator & Governor & Mayor, too). One party would be the same as no party. It really is a clusterfuck. Maybe we need less representation; but that's another story.

See why I don't watch the news.

i don't feel like wasting the time to explain any further. all you are going to do is go off the hook and prove my point further, right-wrong-indifferent, that you simply can't stand anyone's opinion that is different than yours. the only acceptable answer would be do agree with you, well that ain't happening.

See what u did there, slip? You just defined "politics" as something else. <shrug> Call it whatever u want but it's still politics.

Oh, and back to dogstar: On further reflection, I think what u were really saying that I didn't fully appreciate was that functionally "politics" has been redefined as the science of winning elections rather than the art of governing. As w/ my response to slip above, I'm more than a little suspicious of simply defining issues away, but your fundamental point has a lot of truth in it: It's one aspect of McConnell defining his "job" as ensuring Obama's defeat four years later. Well, no, that's not his job, but it is in fact how he and many people just like him on both sides of the aisle see their jobs.

No, the 3/5ths cause was added to end slavery, because the south wanted it but most of the founding fathers didn't want it. So they added the 3/5ths clause to keep the southern states happy.
