Maybe you don't think tax credits count as subsidies.

Don't hurt people, and don't take their stuff.

Will read the article later, but of course tax credits are a form of subsidy.LBRod wrote:https://www.energy.gov/eere/electricveh ... incentives

I left out the worst wrong reason: The first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses.beantownbubba wrote:The government isn't always right about the best technologies to support and the government isn't always motivated by the right reasons, see e.g. JohnA's comment about corn-to-ethanol.
My friend Jerry Young, who used to write about music for the Austin Statesman, ran into Peter Schickele aka P. D. Q. Bach on the UT-Austin campus before a concert and got him to autograph his copy of "Semiconductor Theory". I myself keep Charles Pinter's "Set Theory" shelved with "No Man's Land" and "The Homecoming".beantownbubba wrote:forget semiconductors

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit
As usual, gun control is going nowhere. It's time to shake things up (or shake some action as the flaming groovies might say) and think outside the box. Here's my contribution to the outside of the box:
Somebody in Congress should introduce legislation that would require the government to give an assault weapon to every citizen over the age of, say, 16. The weapon should come in a package including ammunition, gun safety training and a gun safe.
I'd say the over/under is about 6 hours before the NRA and its congressional lapdogs start howling objections. All of a sudden, I suspect, the Second Amendment will not be unlimited. Concern that citizens need to be armed to resist a tyrannical government will be found to be unfounded or overblown. A slew of recommendations for how to protect one's home w/ something less than an assault rifle will fill cyberspace.
And reasonable, realistic gun control will become possible.

BTB, I have an even better idea.
Remember, such a long long time ago, when the President banned all Muslims from entering the country until "we figure out what the hell is going on"?
Let's borrow that line of thinking. (although..Fuck Trump)
My idea is that, until further notice, all white men are banned from buying any guns or ammo, until we figure out what the hell is going on. Look at practically all of the shootings as of late. White. Men. If the problem isn't guns, it must be the white men.
I'd bet we nip a few things in the bud pretty quickly.

True story: Adam Broad, a member of the FB DBT group is running for Congress in Illinois! At this moment that is exactly everything I know on the subject but I will try to learn more.

If you don't read the whole thing, don't comment. It's a goddam trip and you have to take the ride to get to the destination...which might just be some perspective on Dan Rather and my still-enduring belief he was set up:
The Pee Tape Is Real, but It's Fake
There’s a video going around that no one’s really talking about. What makes it most unreal is how believable it is.
This is the world we live in now. Or at least one version of it. We'll have a new one tomorrow, which I think was actually yesterday. Damned if I can tell any more.

I don't recognize Adam from the Chicago-area shows but I suspect i have danced on his toes at some point in the last 18 years. I think he is running against an incumbent democrat, Brad Schneider, so he has an uphill battle.beantownbubba wrote:True story: Adam Broad, a member of the FB DBT group is running for Congress in Illinois! ^^^Agreed. Once the calculus of survival takes on a more individual and less tribal cast, even sycophants (maybe especially sycophants) will jump ship. I expect to see ship jumping gaining momentum.

You know, I never thought I'd see the day when I get nostalgic for Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, but by comparison to Barr he looks like a saint. Insane.

Some Lines, On the Occasion of Discovering That One of Donald Trump’s Border Plans Was a Moat Filled With Snakespearlbeer wrote:

At Rio Grande did Donald Trump
A deadly moat of snakes decree:
An obstacle too wide to jump,
An overflowing venom pump
For killing refugees.
So twice five million angry snakes
Were drugged until they weren’t awake;
And packed in boxes poked with oxygen holes,
With labels bearing the names of addressees;
And here were frozen rats in little bowls,
And cedar chips to soak up cobra pee...
