The Neverending Thread for Political Shit

This forum is for talking about non-music-related stuff that the DBT fanbase might be interested in. This is not the place for inside jokes and BS. Take that crap to some other board.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, April 23, 2018:

Look, at some point Democrats have to decide whether they love this country more than they hate this president. And they have to decide that they want to put the safety and the security and the diplomacy of our country ahead of their own political games. And we’re very hopeful that they will.

The President's personal lawyer is pleading the Fifth in a case directly involving the President. (well, and a porn star) Yet, no one is seriously freaking the fuck out. Oh the times we live in.

Honestly, the #tansuit received more attention.

And there's also this:

President Trump acknowledged Thursday for the first time that his longtime lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen represented him in efforts to silence Stormy Daniels, the adult film actress who has alleged a sexual encounter with Trump more than a decade ago.

Trump earlier this month denied any knowledge of the $130,000 payment to Daniels that was arranged by Cohen and is subject of a federal investigation, telling reporters: “I don’t know” about the payment or where Cohen got the money. And the White House repeatedly has insisted that Daniels’ allegations that she had a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006 were false.

But in an interview with Fox News on Thursday morning, Trump appeared to reveal that he had knowledge of Cohen’s payment to Daniels.

Michael represents me, like with this crazy Stormy Daniels deal, he represented me,” Trump said. “And from what I’ve seen, he did absolutely nothing wrong. There were no campaign funds going into this.”

I just finished reading every line of the Washington Post's story on Scott Pruitt's appearances before Congress today. Subjects not mentioned include the exclusion of science from the policy making process, the EPA's stand on climate change (which one would think would be a hot topic after Macron's speech yesterday) and the bizarre (imho) reduction of regulation on coal. Of course these topics could have been covered but not reported on, but I have my doubts, and even so, that would be a very sad statement of journalistic priorities.

Yeah, I'm disgusted by the sleaze and I recognize that it has to be covered for both substantive and especially political reasons, but the EPA is responsible for this little thing we call the state of our planet (or at least the US part of it) and I'd like to think that's worth some discussion/exploration/questioning. Very, very disheartening because there is no part of the government that is functioning anything like the way it's supposed to. I despair. Again. Still. Whatever.

Had lunch with my 80-something parents today and they just keep getting worse. My dad (89) is almost clinically depressed and doesn't want to talk about it; my mom (85) is just incredulous and keeps searching CNN and Rachel Maddow and the Washington Post for answers she'll never find. They both just can't believe it. And I can really sense a feeling of hopelessness tinged with fear in them. Something else I sense is an unspoken feeling that they won't live to see the country recover. I think they'd almost rather just let go. Trump is killing my parents.

I watched Michelle Wolf's speech. Although a bit dirty, I didn't think it was that bad. If I had 20 mins in front of that crowd...well...THEN we'd have something to talk about.

In case y'all never saw it, this is what a progressive candidate's campaign ad with guns looks like:

(He lost, but started Let America Vote and is probably better positioned for bigger things as a result. https://www.letamericavote.org/):

Oh. I thought this was the ad for the guy from GA who threatens a high school aged potential suitor for his daughter w/ a shotgun. I wonder what this guy means by "Christian Conservative" now that the term is effectively an oxymoron. Labels, dog whistles, winks and nods, whatever, none of it means anything but it sure raises a ruckus.

The term "gun grabber" is kind of interesting. I can't deny that there are some people who self-identify as "pro gun control" or "anti gun violence" who actually want to take people's guns away somewhat indiscriminately. It's unfortunate and a sign of the times that on so many issues (on both ends of the spectrum) the most vocal and extreme portion of advocates of an issue come to stand for the whole. It's easy, it's fun, it serves to deflect attention from serious issues and problems and it makes reasoned discussion/debate impossible. We are all losers when that happens. Subtlety died a while ago but now it's a distant memory. I wonder if we'd know it if we saw it.

I thought she was great! I especially liked the line comparing Trump and Russia to Hillary and Michigan, and her thorough trashing of the press near the end. I would've skipped the Chris Christie joke, since he's dead (politically speaking), but the Mitch McConnell joke was (if anything) too mild. I guess those balance out. If you haven't heard it, see for yourselves:

Seems to me that we don't have to talk about him unless he wins today. And if he does win, the first question has to be what do we make of people in coal country who vote for a guy who went to prison for killing coal miners?

Plus you forgot to mention that he's actually a resident of Las Vegas.

Didn’t forget, just thought it paled in comparison to his other bulletpoints.

I was wondering if we should talk about him only due to the bizarreness and hilarity, he is truly one of a kind on those points. He truly is a Scooby Doo villain come to life
