GOP lawmaker calls for Trump’s border wall, warns nuclear weapons may be hidden in marijuana
But I can suggest to you that there are national security implications here for a porous border. We sometimes used to make the point that if someone wanted to smuggle in a dangerous weapon, even a nuclear weapon, into America, how would they do it? And the suggestion was made, ‘Well, we’ll simply hide it in a bale of marijuana.'”

GOP Congressman: More Uninsured People Means More Freedom
Rep. Mike Burgess (R-Texas), a doctor who sits on a House health subcommittee, told the conservative crowd that a reduction in the number of people with health insurance coverage shouldn't be viewed as a negative. "If the numbers drop, I would say that's a good thing," Burgess said, "because we've restored personal liberty in this country, and I'm always for that." Burgess seemed to imply that there are people who hate the idea of having health insurance but were forced to buy it because otherwise IRS agents would be "chasing [them] down" under the current law.

The only explanation I've got for the last 4 or 5 posts is that stupidity has become a contagious disease and is about to make the plague look like a mild cold. There is no known vaccine, and besides, if there were, millions would refuse to take it.
If anyone has a better explanation, I'm willing, even eager, to hear it.
I think I said it the week after the election, or maybe it was the inauguration: The Onion's gonna have to fold because reality has become a far bigger joke than even those jokesters could imagine. Or put another way, how do you parody a parody of a travesty of a mockery of a sham?

Yep. Funny, the administration was just touting states' rights as a reason to dial back LGBT protections. Hypocritical douchenozzles.

I waited till I could look at the text of the Bannon-Priebus interview at CPAC to add this: Bannon locates Justice as part of his warfighting vertical, along with the military, the intelligence agencies, and Homeland Security.John A Arkansawyer wrote:He's lying. Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit
States' rights have always been a pretext. The same Fugitive Slave Act that gave one state the right to invade another to seize an escaped enslaved human being denied that other state the right to repel them. If states' rights are useful to an argument, then they are used. If they are not, they are ignored. Hardly anyone believes in states' rights as a principle separate from the right in question. People have more sentimental connection to local control, but that, too, is largely a pretext.Flea wrote:whatwouldcooleydo? wrote:something something states rights?Tequila Cowboy wrote:White House hints at crackdown on recreational marijuana

Hey I'm a conservative Truckers fan even after Patterson said "Southern conservatives are a bunch of fucking dumbasses.". Lol.DiamondDave wrote:A very nice post Cole.
If only it was always this way. Unfortunately I've very rarely seen it handled this way.
Politics discussed rarely lead to kumbaya, I think we can all agree on that. I am either the most Liberal Conservative or the most Conservative Liberal. I've never been quite able to figure it out. Though I guess I would identify as Conservative, particularly financially, though I tend to lean Liberal in many social areas.
I voted Libertarian for what it's worth.
I disagree with both sides, and as it is, catch shit from both sides. I'm also a Deadhead. A Conservative Deadhead. Try living that life online.
I guess I have a hard time discussing such matters online. Perhaps it's the sarcasm. Or the implied condescension that often accompanies politics. I become overly defensive.
Plus, I often have a beer or six....and somehow begin to think I'm the most prophetic man since Jesus.
All the best.
Sometimes you just have to laugh and forget it.
Glad to know you man. Hope you keep posting.

For what it's worth, this Google search for "Patterson Hood" and "fucking dumbasses." only gives fake news and some weird shit.
(How weird? The "I Feel Lucky" first returned result is about a kinky hypocrite of the cloth getting caught. I'll take that to be a good omen.)

I don't even really care. I mean it's not like it was a nice thing to say but its one of those statements that is such a blanket statement that you just can't work up any outrage over it.

So now I know the true meaning of that old childhood standby: "That's so funny I forgot to laugh." Because this is pretty hysterical but I can't even bring myself to smile because the stupidity is so sad, so overwhelming and so fucking scary. Combined w/ the rest of today's events I am as scared, well, let's put it this way: I've begun the process of obtaining a license to carry in MA, though the way things are going, by the time I get the license, minor details like licensing may not be especially relevant. If we want our country, we're going to have to fight for it. Literally.beantownbubba wrote:tupidity has become a contagious disease and is about to make the plague look like a mild cold.

Zip, the plan is simple: Just declare victory. It's just taking a little longer than expected to get control over the pesky media.

Clearly moral victories over:
-transgender bathroom use
-muslim immigrants from non-threatening countries
-restrictions on financial borrowing and advisors
-restrictions on dumping coal debris in rivers
-the future of Medicare, ACA, education, recreational marijuana
can all compensate for a victory over ISIS

"Nobody knew that healthcare could be so complicated"
and there's this

“I say to the Republicans if you really want to do something politically something good, don’t do anything. Sit back for a period of two years because seventeen is going to be a disaster, a disaster for Obamacare if we don’t do something. Let it be a disaster because we can blame that on the Dems that are in our room, and we can blame that on the Democrats and President Obama. Let it implode, and then let it implode in eighteen even worse, don’t do anything, and they will come begging for us to do something. But that’s not the fair thing to do for the people, not the fair thing."

"Nobody knew that healthcare could be so complicated."
That's worth re-visiting.
Think about it.
It's just breathtaking in its stupidity, in its admission that he had no fucking clue about what he was talking about for at least the past 2 years, in its admission that his "plan" to repeal and replace Obamacare doesn't exist in any form much less in almost complete form, in his lack of awareness that yes, tens and tens of millions know EXACTLY how complicated healthcare is which is why they didn't vote for this incompetent asshole and in its complete summation in so few words of just how badly he fooled so many, many people. Read it and weep.
