The Neverending Thread for Political Shit

This forum is for talking about non-music-related stuff that the DBT fanbase might be interested in. This is not the place for inside jokes and BS. Take that crap to some other board.

PENCE: The focus is to literally give families and give local law enforcement additional tools if an individual is reported to be a potential danger to themselves or others. Allow due process so no one’s rights are trampled but the ability to go to court, obtain an order and collect not only the firearms but any weapons in the possession.

TRUMP: Or, Mike, take the firearms first and then go to court. Because that’s another system. A lot of times by the time you go to court, it takes so long to go to court, to get the due process. I like taking the guns early. Like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida. He had a lot of firearms. They saw everything. To go to court would have taken a long time. You could do exactly what you’re saying but take the guns first, go through due process second.

"Due process second," the guiding principle of dictators everywhere for as long as there have been dictators (whether they've said the words or not)." The man actually has no concept, no clue, no friggin' idea of what he's talking about. His lack of understanding makes what he says a little less scary, but his lack of understanding is damn scary all by itself so the net fear factor rises. The president of the United States could not pass history/civics/social studies at any high school in America. The president!!!!

can you imagine the furor had the previous president said this?

If Obama had said this, the NRA would still be raising funds off that 100 years from now

I hope it's a lack of understanding. I'm afraid he's getting more effective as time goes on. And I'm sure the NRA is going to be okay with what he said, because they know he doesn't plan to violate their due process. So long as it isn't applied to them, I'm pretty sure they'll be downright thrilled to see force replace law. It puts the game on their turf.

In a show of political strength, Georgia lawmakers on Thursday overwhelmingly approved a bill that was stripped of an earlier provision granting Delta Air Lines a lucrative tax break.

By passing the bill, lawmakers carried out the threat that Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle (R) made to Atlanta-based Delta earlier this week: If the airline did not restore discounted fares to members of the National Rifle Association, Republicans would strike down a $50 million sales-tax exemption on jet fuel from its larger tax-cut package. Delta, which is one of the state’s largest employers, would have been the primary beneficiary of the exemption.

In case you missed it: Today's NYT had three -count 'em three! - separate editorials excoriating the Trumps for nepotism, insider dealing, corruption and general incompetence. Perhaps a little late, but otherwise dead on accurate in all respects and worth a read. Or as I said earlier on Facebook re Jared, how the hell could a Jewish guy be so fucking stupid?

Trump allegedly started a trade war because he was in a bad mood

Trump, the two officials said, was angry and gunning for a fight, and he chose a trade war, spurred on by Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Peter Navarro, the White House director for trade. ... There were no prepared, approved remarks for the president to give at the planned meeting, there was no diplomatic strategy for how to alert foreign trade partners, there was no legislative strategy in place for informing Congress, and no agreed upon communications plan ... No one at the State Department, the Treasury Department, or the Defense Department had been told that a new policy was about to be announced or given an opportunity to weigh in in advance.

The liberal media, in association with some who want to destroy our Country do not want my influence in the 2018 elections and are doing everything they can to stop me.

Gays, lesbians, and transgenders have joined forces with those who believe in abortion, sodomy, and destruction of all that we hold dear. Unless we stand together we will lose our Country.

Christians can no longer afford to remain silent in these “perilous” times. For we know that in such time men shall be come lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God.

We must fight, an appeal to the God of Heaven is all that is left us!

Please help me fight this battle for the heart and soul of this Nation. Your financial contribution to my legal defense fund is crucial.

This part sounds like the title of a Fiona Apple album:

For we know that in such time men shall be come lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God.

yep, and he could completely do away with the need for legal fees by publicly apologizing to Leigh Corfman and refraining from any more public attacks upon her

For the record, while I might be at least half of a dozen of these, i am not, repeat not, incontinent.

Maybe I'm just in a bad mood today, but the news on Tillerson's abrupt firing has me a bit shaken. With Cohn and Tillerson (and likely soon McMaster) out, Trump is now able to basically go it alone. Or, worse, be encouraged by Miller and his gang. Congress, Paul Ryan and Mitch have clearly punted. Seems things will get worse before they get better. Wish I could go glass half-full here, but international trade and nuclear arms are on the table. I remain optimistic about the 2018 elections, but under the current circumstances...damn...that is a long, long way away.

Meanwhile, porn stars, hush money, giving in to the NRA (again), turnover that has never been seen in the White House, increasing attacks on the press, no sanctions on Russia, security clearance issues, no action on election meddling...goddamn...we've turned the corner from "this is not normal" to "fucking insane is the new normal". And it just doesn't seem like anyone in a position to do something - anything - gives a shit.

Can you imagine if a tenth of this shit happened under Obama?

Tillerson's been a lame duck since it got out last summer that he called DJT a "fucking moron". Many experts coming out and declaring him the worst Secretary of State in modern history. You gotta love the fact he was fired via Twitter the morning after he came out and publicly stated that it was highly likely that Russia was behind the U.K. poisoning. Shit show doesn't even begin to characterize what is going on in Washington right now.

Shouldn't any leader, in any field, not just the president of the US but any CEO, head coach, executive director, chairman of the board, etc etc be considered weak to the point of parody for leaving a highly ranked subordinate who called him a "fucking moron" in place for half a year? This firing was inevitable, the way it was done typical, but why doesn't this go into the "he's a terrible leader" column for NOT firing Rex for so long?

Read some of the interviews of PA voters in the WaPo today. People perceive Trump as a great leader and a great negotiator!! How is that possible? Even allowing that his tactics worked re N. Korea, which is no sure thing and was undercut to at least some degree by Trump immediately agreeing to meet w/out conditions, what about pretty much everything else? He didn't exactly woo the NRA. He gave away the Pacific Rim for NOTHING in his first week in office, he's clueless about Iran, he ended the Middle East peace process apparently w/out even realizing it, the list is endless. The reality that at least tens of millions of my countrymen live in is scaring the shit out of me.
