For some people, no matter how poor they are, they still feel like Sanders would be "taking from them to give to someone else". Never mind that THEY would be the likely recipient of that particular spreading of wealthFlea wrote:I'll echo what everyone else said regarding Mr. Vance's interview but I do take a bit of exception to:
I truly feel that Bernie tries as well. Seems to me, though, that his message doesn't resonate in the same fashion either because of his cultural background or his self-labeling as a Democratic Socialist....these people–my people–are really struggling, and there hasn’t been a single political candidate who speaks to those struggles in a long time. Donald Trump at least tries.

Possibly. I think it's just as likely that they associate Bernie with the same people they associate Clinton. The people who look down on them and call them stupid, racist, xenophobic, etc.

I didn't say all, or even most. And everyone shouldn't be lumped together and painted in teh same way as the bad ones. But the same can be said for cops, BLM followers, etc. No one likes being labeledCole Younger wrote:I can always count on you, Zip.Zip City wrote:Well to be fair, some of them ARE stupid, racist and xenophobicCole Younger wrote:Possibly. Hmmmm... what's wrong with politics today?
Fake scandals entirely w/out substance? Check
Conspiracy theories running rampant, some of them possibly true?* Check
Fake drama according to the perceived required script resulting in a sacrificial lamb?** Check
Inside the Beltway revolving door bullshit where the song never changes, people just sit in different chairs? Check
Turning nothing into something: A Clinton family specialty since 1992.
*If anything at all matters in this faux scandal it is the possibility that "the Russians did it." If true, that's some seriously bad and scary shit.
** This is no comment on Ms. Schultz's actual abilities which from a distance appear to be fairly minimal. But a circus is a circus even if the clown is a clown.

7. Here's where it gets more interesting. This is one of a handful of developments that tipped me from seeing all this as just a part of Trump's larger shadiness to something more specific and ominous about the relationship between Putin and Trump. As TPM's Tierney Sneed explained in this article, one of the most enduring dynamics of GOP conventions (there's a comparable dynamic on the Dem side) is more mainstream nominees battling conservative activists over the party platform, with activists trying to check all the hardline ideological boxes and the nominees trying to soften most or all of those edges. This is one thing that made the Trump convention very different. The Trump Camp was totally indifferent to the platform. So party activists were able to write one of the most conservative platforms in history. Not with Trump's backing but because he simply didn't care. With one big exception: Trump's team mobilized the nominee's traditional mix of cajoling and strong-arming on one point: changing the party platform on assistance to Ukraine against Russian military operations in eastern Ukraine. For what it's worth (and it's not worth much) I am quite skeptical of most Republicans call for aggressively arming Ukraine to resist Russian aggression. But the single-mindedness of this focus on this one issue - in the context of total indifference to everything else in the platform - speaks volumes.

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit
It's way too easy to believe almost anything about Trump so it's important to go slow especially about stuff that feed's one paranoia or fear about him. But I do not discount the possibility that Trump and Putin are somewhat sympatico which might make Trump more open to Russian views and aims than is traditional in US (especially Republican) politics. But my real fear is that Putin has sized Trump up and knows he can eat him for breakfast lunch and dinner before Trump even knows that food is on the table. And if that's true, trying to nudge the election in Trump's direction still seems far fetched but not totally out of the question.dee dee wrote:I have a really low opinion about the Donald but this seems almost too unbelievable.beantownbubba wrote:Hmmmm... what's wrong with politics today?

The last thing Trump would ever believe about himself is that he's naive, but when it comes to international relations/foreign policy that's exactly what he is. He just doesn't get the stakes, the motivations, the risks, the history, the animosities, any part of it. He has a really traditional "ugly American" approach, not so much in the rude and loud sense (although I have no problem believing that's true too) but in the belief in American superiority sense - I very seriously doubt that he thinks any foreign leader is his equal, much less superior and overconfidence is a terrible weakness in the international arena. Just 'cause there wasn't enough to keep us up at night already...

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit
You really do like yanking peoples' chains, don't you? I can't blame you. It is a funny and pathetic situation. The Republicans did a good job of putting on a bad show. The Democrats have great material but can't even agree on a script. If what little I saw of the Democratic Convention tonight is typical of the week, then I think Trump wins this round on points. Which is a terrible way to kick off the campaign season.Wolf wrote:i know it is. no thinkin' about it. he's a fuckin' whack. what's a 1%er? that's biker bullshit right? fuck biker gangstinnitus photography wrote:if you think Sanders' message is making you laugh, you must be a 1%er.
