Politics or sports? This seems as good a place as any:
The NBA is moving the next All Star game out of N. Carolina because of the LGBT fiasco.

Heard this on the radio. What stunned me even more was the report that renowned right winger coach k (and son of Satan ) is in full support of this. I didn't expect that from himbeantownbubba wrote:Politics or sports? This seems as good a place as any:

Some men just want to watch the world burn...Tequila Cowboy wrote:To me it's way more than that. Yes he's incompetent but he's also very, very dangerous. Incompetency in the Presidency hasn't been seen since the 1800s and the job wasn't what it is now. The idea of Trump and the nuclear codes scares the fuck out of me and should scare everyone else too.beantownbubba wrote:When you get past all the isms, ists, phobias and whatnot, you're still left with an insoluble problem: Trump is incompetent. So what you've got is people saying "serves them right in Washington. I'm gonna dump Trump on their heads and see how they like it." Except that "washington" in this sense is US. This is classic cutting off your nose to spite your face behavior. The kind of behavior that actual adults are not supposed to engage in. Trump isn't really an outsider, that's just more image-making, but even if it were true, what good does it do to hire an outsider if he can't do the job?
Now it's dark.

CNN reporting that an openly gay billionaire will be giving a speech tonight, at the convention, admonishing the GOP for its anti-LGBT stance. Can't wait to see how that goes

Jeff Sessions is a grade A scumbag and he's apparently being groomed for a appointment in Trump's cabinet (should the abominable happen).
This is a guy who once infamously said that he thought the KKK were "alright until I found out they smoke pot".

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit
I think for now we are even unequal to the task of separating out those grievances which with good and unhesitant conscience we could call bigotry or injustice from those which we might admit, possibly to our own shame or embarrassment, have some justice to them.
The nettle that I do not think we can grasp easily is that Trump is not Trump for some of his devoted voters. Meaning that his actual attributes, character, quality of leadership, integrity, history, matter almost not at all.
What Trump is for many of his closest supporters is someone that scares and horrifies their social enemies, and that’s all he needs to be. Trump is the leader of a social crusade: his meaning is the crusade itself. Trump is a sign, not a man.
Trump is vengeance for every teacher who made someone feel stupid, for every promotion that went to someone with a higher degree, for every younger boss who asked for your TPS reports or moved your cubicle, for every kid who lectured you about intersectionality and told you that you should call yourself ‘cisgendered’, for every tech-sector nouveau riche who bought up all the property in your formerly sleepy town and then relentlessly pressured the school board to put more money into gifted programs and get rid of the trade-school electives...
The sooner we put those assholes in the grave&piss on the dirt above it, the better off we'll be

"I think for now we are even unequal to the task of separating out those grievances which with good and unhesitant conscience we could call bigotry or injustice from those which we might admit, possibly to our own shame or embarrassment, have some justice to them. I’ve been proud my own life of knowing a lot of things and of being pretty sure of myself in giving counsel based on knowing, but my memories can sift out many times when that’s been an intrusion or a presumption, when if I’m really serious about knowledge, I should have listened and learned instead.
But I think the time may be here when if we want to stop Trump, we first have to stop assuming that the next revelation about his gross unsuitability for the office will be sufficient. Maybe that will be enough for him to lose, in fact–but it will not get us very far past that loss."
I reached the same conclusion in a different way. When one (ok, me) asks a Trump supporter what they expect to happen if Trump is elected, one gets back one version or another of "i don't know," I don't care" or "I haven't thought that far ahead." It's all about that momentary satisfaction of sticking it to the man one early Wednesday morning in November because the grievances, real, imagined and otherwise, are so deeply felt and so long suffered and the resulting helplessness, frustration and rage so justified. It's a horrible but in many ways inevitable verdict on national politics and our peculiar version of capitalism since approximately the end of Reagan's second term.
And while the conventional wisdom explaining the remarkable hatred for Hillary Clinton among many Trump supporters comes down to sexism, there is another partial explanation: By attributing all manner of evil to Clinton, one does not have to think too carefully about what Trump is and isn't. It removes the motivation and mechanism to look at Trump and reach the conclusion that is self evident to many of us: Trump is a danger to each and every one of us and to our country and anyone, anyone would be better. But hey, if "anyone" includes Lucifer, Satan*, or whatever the label of the day is, suddenly there is permission/reason to vote for Trump and not to worry about the consequences.
*And I'm not talking about Coach K, you crazy kid.

Replacements biographer Bob Mehr points out that if elected, Kaine would be the first Replacements fan to serve as vice president. During a radio interview several years ago with Richmond-based DJ Chris Bopst, Kaine listed the Replacements’ Let It Be as one of his favorite albums, Style Weekly reports.

Please read this. I am going to buy a copy of this man's book today. To believe that people don't vote as some might think they should due to stupidity or being morally or intellectually stunted in some way is a large part of why a Donald Trump presidency may fall right on our heads.
This is a fantastic read. If it has already been posted I apologize for the redundancy.

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit
Great read. Thanks for posting. I teach at the poorest majority white school district in the metro area I live in... full of trailer parks and poverty. I've often thought the way city residents and wealthy suburban residents alike speak about the area I teach in would be labeled racist if "hoosier" were substituted with slurs aimed at minority groups. The area lost a Chrysler plant and things became even worse. I'm sure Trump will do quite well here. On the flip side of the coin, I've felt like the residents reflexively opposed anything President Obama did for less than virtuous reasons.Cole Younger wrote:http://www.theamericanconservative.com/ ... or-whites/

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit
Very good read, and a great insight into the problems of poverty. Sadly, it doesn't seem like there is a real solution, as the symptoms of it run so deep

Re: The Neverending Thread for Political Shit
I'll echo what everyone else said regarding Mr. Vance's interview but I do take a bit of exception to:
I truly feel that Bernie tries as well. Seems to me, though, that his message doesn't resonate in the same fashion either because of his cultural background or his self-labeling as a Democratic Socialist....these people–my people–are really struggling, and there hasn’t been a single political candidate who speaks to those struggles in a long time. Donald Trump at least tries.
Now it's dark.
