I did not know that! thanks BTB! I might have been there with my dad but I do not remember. My mom thinks maybe, but every family vacation in AR was coordinated when the Dodgers were in St. Louis and sometimes he went up there by himself.
Looks like a bunch of little whiny fucksticks to me

Gotta believe u were there, gator: It wasn't generally known that Koufax would retire but it was widely known that he couldn't continue too much longer, plus i doubt any dad would have passed up a chance to take his son to see koufax, given the slightest opportunity. That's totally the way it was back then, and i know from personal experience

Scotto, you gotta be an avid Royals fan like me. I have really enjoyed this thread, so many Royals references, and the Rusty Kuntze is the best. Glad to have him back on the Royals staff. Seeing Balboni in a Yankees uni is classic as well, doesn't he hold the Royals HR record still?
You still in KC? We should catch a game sometime.

Hey Hendoo.
Nope, I'm in Jefferson City these days. But I lived in KC during the Royals' glory days from 1978 on and was at the infamous Game Six in '85. I used to be a huge baseball fan, but not nearly as much since the '94 strike.
But maybe if the Royals pick up Pujols in 2012...

I think the Pujols signing is a big dream around here. In some cases it makes sense, but then you say it is the freaking Royals, no way they do that. Although he would sell 3 million seats throughout the year, and they have the money. You should at least check out the newly redesigned K, it really is pretty nice.

Cardboard Gods by Josh Wilker. Not a great book, but a good one - growing up as reflected in a baseball card collection. If you're reading this thread you should read this book.

This one's for you, hendoo:
Eight-time Gold Glove winner, five-time All-Star, played in 62 consecutive errorless games in 1977, one of the best second basemen ever and certainly of his era, and a KC hometown boy.
He was fun to watch.

couldn't find where this had been posted. sorry if it's a dup.
Ellis, D
Dock Phillip Ellis, Jr. (March 11, 1945 – December 19, 2008) was a professional baseball player who pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates, among other teams in Major League Baseball. His best season was 1971, when he won 19 games for the World Series champion Pirates and was the starting pitcher for the National League in the All-Star Game. However, he is perhaps best remembered for throwing a no-hitter in 1970 and later stating that he had done it while under the influence of LSD.

Might as well bump this thread since we're talkin' baseball today.
Such a shame about Dutch. Everyone in Philly loves the guy. He's got a great radio show, he's totally cool, the chicks dig him, and he understands the game inside and out. Incidentally, he's the third Phillie to get brain cancer in recent years (Tug McGraw and John Vukovich both died from it) and all three spent an awful lot of time at the Vet in the 80's. Makes you wonder.

Sorry, but I refuse to let this thread die. One of the more iconic players of the 60's and 70's, and made a mockery of the Yankees. His book below, one of the dirtiest books I've ever read, if you can find it, check it out.

My very first favorite player. I liked him better than Tom Seaver.
