The Obligatory Holiday Movie & TV thread
Ok so I have a soft spot for holiday entertainment. Throw out some favorites. I'll start:
All the Claymation stuff particularly Santa Claus is Coming to Town
It's a Wonderful Life
A Christmas Carol (Alistair Sim version for a classic and Patrick Stewart's for a more modern take)
White Christmas

It's a Wonderful Life - when you're feeling beat down, battered and ready to give up it will set you right every time.
Not forever, just for now.

Can you hear that singing? Sounds like gold...

I want a fuzzy, claymation Mrs. Claus's Kimono.
I have nowhere else to go. There is no demand in the priesthood for elderly drug addicts

Anyone remember when MST 3000 did "Santa vs the Martians" ? always one of my favorites!
Reluctantly, our hero rises to the day, with a moan and a curse to an absent God.

Bad Santa
Nightmare before Christmas (bit soppy but OK)

I've never taken a pissbreak during a DBT show but if I had it would have been during Dancing Ricky.

This was a Chicago Christmas classic when I was a kid. Semi creepy but oddly awesome.

Re: The Obligatory Holiday Movie & TV thread
Our holiday movie triumvirate (and usually in pretty much this order):
Miracle on 34th Street (1947). I always lose it when Kris sings "Sinterklaas Kapoentje" with that little Dutch girl.
It's a Wonderful Life (1946). Capra rocks, one of Jimmy Stewart's last great roles before he took up mumbling as a theatrical device, and Donna Reed is an underrated stunner.
A Christmas Carol (1951). Not just a good Christmas movie, but an all-round excellent film. Alastair Sim is brilliant in the role he was almost born to play.
Other good ones:
Christmas in Connecticut (1945) with Barbara Stanwyck, Sydney Greenstreet, and one very cool house.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966), the one and only original with the one and only Boris Karloff.
And not a holiday movie per se, but The Apartment, along with being an excellent film, has some great Christmas/New Years bits.

Re: The Obligatory Holiday Movie & TV thread
Okay - time to confess. I've never actually sat down and watched Miracle on 34th Street or It's a Wonderful Life all the way through. I've got nothing but time on my hands this year, so maybe I'll try to catch them.
Meanwhile, my favorites are Bad Santa and Elf and the Christmas Story.
The abominable snowman in Frosty (or was that from Rudolph???) used to give me nightmares as a kid. Creepy.

Hey Lurleen ~ maybe we should plan to watch at the same time. Different countries, yet together.. I confess, I've NEVER watched It's a Wonderful Life or Miracle on 34th Street.. I don't even really know what either are about except to say it must have sometime to do with Christmas..
My fav holiday movies are the original Scrooge and White Christmas. My holidays wouldn't be the same if I missed either.
At some point, the Christmas Vacation dvd will go in as well as Bad Santa..
TV ..mmm.. Grinch, of course! In my younger days, The Little Drummer Boy always made me cry.. esp the part when the poor little lamb gets run over

Santa: I've been to New York thousands of times.
Buddy: Really?
Santa: Mm-hmm.
Buddy: What's it like?
Santa: Well, there are some things you should know. First off, you see gum on the street, leave it there. It isn't free candy.
Buddy: Oh.
Santa: Second, there are, like, thirty Ray's Pizzas. They all claim to be the original. But the real one's on 11th. And if you see a sign that says "Peep Show", that doesn't mean that they're letting you look at the new toys before Christmas.
