Re: Pets
Thanks for bringing this thread back, Clams, it is one of my favorite threads on here!
We're such big animal lovers.
We have a cat named Shelby. We got her from a local animal shelter. Our previous cat, Molly, (also a shelter cat) had to be put down at the very young age of 8 due to kidney failure. It was awful. After some time passed, I visited our local shelter. Shelby took one look at me and started meowing for attention. I petted her, then moved on to look at some other cats. She made it clear she was not happy with me looking at others, and demanded that I come back to petting her. I was instantly hooked. I called Uncle Rickey, told him he better get down here. He shows up, Shelby takes one look at him, reaches through her cage, and pulls his Red Sox hat down over his eyes. A few minutes later we were filling out adoption papers.
She is very spoiled.
We absolutely love dogs too, but our schedules would be so unfair to a dog we can't justify getting one. We make do by visiting our friends dogs as much as possible.
Here is a sleepy Shelby:
And here she is annoyed with me for waking her up:

Ooo, I forgot about this picture. This is during our 2 weeks of rock adventure in April.
It was after the Hold Steady show in WV, at Maluca3 and Dave's place with their furry friends.
Uncle Rickey and Friends, guess I'm out of luck!:

Re: Pets
Here's Lockie aka "the Lockster". She's a 5 year old field-bred Lab with a permanent blue shooting out of her arse. She's a bird hunting/retrieving machine and great with my little ones. She drives me crazy the way she constantly shadows me, but she's one of the best gun dogs I've ever had and I love her.
Not forever, just for now.

Re: Pets
Here's Barbara, a 12 year old english bullie we rescued 10 years ago. She doesn't play well with other animals but is okay with people. Although lately, she seems to have issues with little kids. She goes to work with Mrs. FNW every day and on roadtrips to OBX with us. She's getting a bit eccentric in her old age but she'll always be my baby.

Thanks. It is an ice pick and there's an opener too.

Re: Pets
i suppose i should probably weigh in
here he is on a retrieve
he's actually in ~3' of water standing on his back legs waiting for the stick to be thrown
i'm getting some love for taking him on one hell of a hunt that day, pheasant hunting is his ultimate pleasure and favorite thing to do
and my all time favorite pic of him, i call this one the "super gauge" this was when he was 2, he can't jump nearly as far today but still does.

I had a lab/irish setter named April, and OMG she loved to swim in the lake. sometimes I would have to go in after her to get her out, especially if there were ducks.

My first and best gundog was a Chocolate Lab. Ginger was a grouse specialist but she could handle just about anything. It broke my heart when it was time for her to cross the bridge, just over a year ago.
Lockie has big shoes to fill, but she does okay.
There's nothing more fun than rambling thickets behind a birdy gun dog.

He IS handsome. I wish Abbey could jump like that. She just paces looking for stairs to climb down.

Rufus (13 years old) Just as sweet as Toby was.
Damn Tom, those are some fine dogs. Sorry about Toby. Good luck with Barnaby, I hope he doesn't torture ol' Rufus too much.
