Cabinet of the Curiosities...
Question: When did axe become the new pronunciation for ask?
You can use an axe to ask someone for their valuables as you rob them.
You can ask the Tinman to chop down a tree with his axe.
But you can not axe your dad to come over for dinner, can you? Well I guess you can if your father was a former member of the Manson Family?

Re: Cabinet of the Curiosities...
I know someone whose last name is Axe, but she always tells folks, "...but it's pronounced 'Ask.'"
Re: Cabinet of the Curiosities...
Please feel free to ask about your own curiosities. I did not see "Clams is curious" thread so I figured hey why not start a general curiosity thread. that I am

This is a question for the ladies here on 3DD. Do any of you know of online or store, where I can get a 2 piece bathing suit? Need an 8 on the bottom but a 10 on the top that has real support in it. Any suggestions would be great. thank you

Victoria's Secret is great for relatively inexpensive bathing suits. I also really like Athleta (www.athleta.com) and J.Crew (though they've gotten a little too pricey for me).

Re: Cabinet of the Curiosities...
When you are entering a place with two doors, one in and one out, why is it that when you open the "in" door to enter, the person exiting then cuts you off and leaves via your door, the "in door", totally skipping the "out" door? And often they say "thanks," as if you were holding the door for them and not trying to use it yourself. Is it so hard for people to know to always use the door on the right?
Yeah, as a someone who thinks of himself as a decent wordsmith, the above does sound like absolute garbage. Hopefully at least the message is conveyed

I gotcha and agree. Hell people can't figure out 4 way stop signs either. I've just given up hope.

I had never seen this until, say, the last 5-7 years, but now it's everywhere. Unfuckinbelieavable. I used to say "there's two doors for a reason," but being "that guy" was tiresome and I got sick of fighting the good fight (unlike Rik Emmitt)

Apparently the "old school rule" of filing to the right side of the hallway, has gone along with financial responsibility, moral concern and ethical behavior!!! Too many just don't give a sh**. The simple things that most of us grew up with seem so foreign to so many. I had to actually explain to a guy a work why you hold the door open for someone. He looked at me like I had 3 heads!!!

I like these folks:

Can be pricey, but I have had suits of theirs for years that still show very little wear.
there's no comfort in survival but I guess it's the best option I've found

Answer me this oh baseball hat wearing folks. What is the point to leaving the big round stickers under the brim? What purpose does leaving the stickey tags on the top of brim serve? Just curious.

I am pretty sure that there aren't too many people on this board that would be able to answer that one for you.

uhmm, i can
'cuz i'm a true playa for real
first, it is traditionally sported only on New Era caps
if the sticker is on the left, it is authentic ( not a knock off)
it is a trend/fashion
it is "so fresh, so clean" way of thinking
if you have a cap with the sticker still on, you have cash money $
it represents it is new/pricey
also it is generally reserved for teens to young adult males.
it ain't hurtin' no body
also, it is about marketing and selling a product
nobody runs around placing stickers on other people's hats
so it's all good.
i suppose the same questions towards people's fashion choices could be applied to:
why do people buy jeans with holes already manufactured in them?
why do people who are not skinny wear skinny jeans?
and the list goes on....
i wear what i like and try to not mind when others do the same
if the curiosity persist...

I had no idea there was so much to these stickers. I was just under the impression it was a "cool" thing. I do like to know the history behind things. Thank you for the info. And this comes from a girl who always states "color is our friend"

are you somehow implying this sticker hat thing is a "color" thing?

Maybe she was referring to the article that said solid color and basic hats are selling more than the garish hats. And maybe she is sad that the more colorful hats aren't selling well.

Re: Cabinet of the Curiosities...
since we're talkin' baseball caps: Of late here in Nor-Cal I have noticed a sudden appearance of KC Royals hats on youths, mostly Asian and Latino males, a la the sudden appearance of White Sox cap-clad youths back when Ice Cube sported one. It's like last month there were none and now it's everywhere. Since I'm pretty sure that we don't have a lot of Royals fans here - is there anywhere outside of KC with a lot of Royals fans- I'm left to wonder the significance of the royal blue hat with the letters "KC."
Son, this ain't a dream no more, it's the real thing
Re: Cabinet of the Curiosities...
This stuff always gets watered down and just becomes fashion after a point, but the Crips (who sport blue colors) wore the blue KC Royals caps and the KC stood for Killer Crips. But there are also non-blue KC Royals caps worn by Bloods and other gangs, and the KC stands for Kill the Crips. Supposedly, the Royals gear was adopted to counter the Bloods' use of KC Chiefs hats, with CHIEFS standing for "Crips hated in every fucking state."
But this could just be so much urban legend.
