This forum is for talking about non-music-related stuff that the DBT fanbase might be interested in. This is not the place for inside jokes and BS. Take that crap to some other board.
Picked up Anvil: The Story of Anvil not knowing anything about it other than some of you fine folk had seen it and liked it. I thought it was going to be a mockumentary (a la Spinal Tap) or if the band were serious the fimmakers set out to make them look like dicks.
Not so. Really liked it, liked the people, and the guy shooting it was obviously a fan. The special features where he plays drums is so cool.
Totally totally recommend this. Its fantastic.
I've never taken a pissbreak during a DBT show but if I had it would have been during Dancing Ricky.
I'm a big fan of McCarthy and The Road and I think they did a really nice job. Wonderfully bleak. Made me feel cold, wet and hungry just watching it. Doesn't follow the book word for word, scene for scene and there's a few details that stood out in the book that I would have like to have seen included. There are also some things I am very thankful they left out. Overall, captures it as best as I think could be done.
Also saw this recently
I expected it to be terrible and it was way worse. Impressively awful. I think I'm dumber for having sat through the first 45 minutes of it.
There were things about this movie that equated to the Nazi's, such as the pile of shoes, while they were at the house and then found who know what in the basement. As soon as I saw that pile of shoes, I knew what to expect.
But I must say, the scene at the beach towards the end, I had to do all I could to get from bursting out in tears!!!! The background of the film, the starkness, gave it so I do not know how to really say it other than it is just as powerful, if not more than any of the acting. Though it was done thoughtfully by all.
Couldn't sleep last night. Thank god for that ridiculous channel that airs the most god awful movies from the 80's that no one would ever want to watch, but busts out a classic once in a while.
Watched this last week. Liked it, but thought it could have been better. Didn't care for any of the Charlize Theron scenes. Thought the score was heavy handed and distracting at times. It felt like they were trying to find a happy medium between grim, gray art film and tear-jerking Oscar fodder, and didn't end up doing justice to either. Still, I liked it overall. The performances were good, loved the casting (especially Deadwood's Garrett Dillehunt, and Omar from The Wire), and there were some really memorable scenes. It just left me feeling a little cold.

Yes there really was not any reason to have those scenes, even if it were to give background info on what happened to bring them to where they were.

the beauty of the book is that they never DID tell you why they are where they are
Yep. The movie is ambiguous about it too, though. The Theron scenes are mostly there to tug at the heartstrings, I guess. Doesn't really work.
I think the first scene (pre-title credits) should have been Viggo teaching his son the proper way to shoot himself. Would have set the tone perfectly, IMO.
