This forum is for talking about non-music-related stuff that the DBT fanbase might be interested in. This is not the place for inside jokes and BS. Take that crap to some other board.

I guess that goes in the category "from whom?" Louis Malle's considered a giant, as far as i know.

I suppose, and I hope you're right, but I'd bet if you asked 10 people to name three great French directors, I'm not sure his name would make that many lists. He won at Cannes, but never won an academy award (I don't think), and, except for Pretty Baby and Atlantic City, was pretty much relegated to the art-house circuits over here. And again, ask 10 people if they've heard of the film Pretty Baby, then ask them who directed it.
I could be wrong, but I think he was better known as Mr. Candice Bergen.
Or maybe I just hang with an exceptionally backward crew of hillbillies.

It's a good enough "weed & popcorn" movie if you subtract the fact that it only takes away from Gram's musicial legacy in favor of Phil Kaufman's own self-mythology.

Gram deserves better.

I must admit I had forgotten he directed Pretty Baby and Atlantic City. When I think of Loius Malles I think of Au Revoir Les Enfants which should have won an Oscar.

That movie is awesome. You just have to take it for the over the top, good time, tongue-in-cheek flick that it is.

Not sure, but I can't imagine how someone could be underwhelmed by his performance.

High expectations or not - he nails it.

Kris Kristofferson is really good in it.

I cant tell you how much I enjoyed the blind side.

Ray McKinnon (who is in Randy and the Mob, and also the "This Fucking Job" video) is in it as the coach.

realist.
but still,
see it.
there are flashes of beauty and truth and laughter and some good songs
for that, it is worth the 2 hours

there are moments
of mundane, regular, near boring, unrealistic

but that is the genius and mystery of life
and the complexity of art

overall it is an average film
but the glimpses of genius make up for the majority of it being "just ok."

For me, the only thing that saved this was his performance. The story is okay, but Bridges does a good job. I think the hype makes it difficult for a skeptical, critical person to watch it with an open mind. It's not a terrible movie by any stretch of the imagination, but it's not a memorable one either.

Holy crap, Dave Matthews is terrible in this. Kris Kristofferson is in it, but only as grown up Billy, and narrator. Horrible, even my students were pissed off at this sorry attempt at a movie.
