Dogwood Tales

Post by WarHenRecords »

Feel like a lot of folks here would enjoy these youngins from Harrisonburg VA.
If you enjoy Whiskeytown, Ditch-era Neil, Mapache, Gram & Emmylou, etc, then Dogwood Tales will most likely resonate with you.

Played Closest Thing to Heaven a few times this past weekend. Good stuff!

New LP/CD going up for pre-order tomorrow for Bandcamp Friday.

Side A is the 13 Summers 13 Falls EP that came out in November last year.
Side B is a brand new EP called Rodeo, that drops in full next Friday 5/12. Lead single "Stranger" will be available to stream at midnight tonight on all the streamers.

Will be pinned to the top of this site: https://warhenrecords.bandcamp.com/music
The vinyl sounds amazing.
Packaging includes an 11x11 insert, DL codes for both EPs and a "Welcome to Barcelona, West Virginia" sticker.
300 vinyl total, with 100 on special Blue Marble wax.
300 CDs total too.

Here's the 13 Summers 13 Falls EP to get a strong taste.

Hope you enjoy.

In what order would you rank their albums? I love all the artists in your “if you like” so color me very interested

The newest one is their best without question. It's two EPs. 13 Summers 13 Falls on the A side, Rodeo on the B. Country vibes for sure, but they are starting to lean into more shoegaze-y influence a little more. That to say, it is definitely more of an (Alt) Country record than a Shoegaze record, so don't let that sway you.

Then probably Closest Thing To Heaven > Live In The Velvet Rut > Too Hard To Tell, in that order.
CTTH was released during peak COVID and people really rallied behind it. Had to make another pressing immediately and then that one sold out too. It's kind of more of a collection of songs vs. a true album, but I wouldn't call it a compilation or an "extras" disc or whatever. There's cohesion in it.

Velvet Rut is only available to listen to on Bandcamp (link above) - I need to get it on Spotify. It's an exceptional document of the band at that time. fully multitrack recording, mixed & mastered. Sounds real nice. Pretty sure it was their last show before COVID shut everything down.

THTT is the debut. It sounds great, but young. You know how it is. They don't play a ton of these songs live anymore sadly, but there are a few on here that really resonate with me - Waiting On The Sun, Spiritless Machine... Recorded at the Fidelitorium where DBT made A Blessing And A Curse.

All the records are strong, the band just keeps getting better with each release.
Kyle & Ben have been playing together since they were like 10yo, so there's a synergy there that runs deep.
Hope you enjoy what you hear.
