Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

Awesome writeup Mamma. You were the one that turned me onto the Bone a couple summers ago and I am forever thankful. They are one of my favorite bands now. Hopefully will get a chance to see em live someday. If you don't have any, get some now. Everything you thought>barrel chested>crow pot pie>slippage. But all of them rock.

Great job Little Mama. I love me some Little Mama and I love me some Slobberbone, even though I've get to see them live. My favorite is "My Love is Waning." I love to sing it at the TOP of my lungs - preferably alone in the car so as not to deafen my friends.

As usual, LM, quite a way with words.
Always nice to read someone's personal take on music--how it gives us an emotional gut-punch and takes on special meaning. That kind of devotion is exciting and contagious here on 3DD (and ol' 9B), which is one of the reasons this feature and this place are so special.
Thanks for the great write-up.

Fool No Where wrote:The reunion show LM mentioned was my first exposure to Slobberbone, except for Lazy Guy which I heard on a local radio station. It didn't take long to figure out that there is real synergy between band and audience. That was one of the reasons I got into Bruce, then DBT. I absolutely love when mutual adoration exists between entertainer and his/her followers. I knew this was a band for me.

Then...I grabbed a live recording of the show we'd attended and listened with my best shure ear buds and a glass of whiskey. I never brought the bottle with me because that might be a "problem." But refills meant getting up so when I returned, I always went back to the start of the song and REALLY listened. I'm not a musician, and even less artsy fartsy. Neanderthal, three chords and a cloud of dust and I'm happy. But the writing, man the writing hooked me and it never let go. Lot's of anger, agony, and heartache that hits home like a steel toed kick to the gut. But, it made me appreciate the good in my life instead of focusing on the darkness. And for that, I'm glad I jumped in.

still you must confess, things are still a mess, for sure. when you're less in her eyes than before

went out to find an old friend but I lost me one instead. I lost it all for just another score

I'll be damned if I'll let you, take my heart and tear it apart. And make me watch the tears fall from your face

'Cause I can tell your love is waning from the looks and smell of it. Like getting caught behind a cattle truck and all you smell is shit ...

Used to be nothing sweeter than the signals it could send, the musical hand it could lend. could be a lonely man's best friend
Where's the place at the table for folks like them?

Damn, I'm glad we get to be rock show douches together. Nicely Done.

I'm listening to Everything You Thought and it kicks all kinds of ass. Reminds me a lot of Lucero. A lot. I seriously can't get over how much I think Placemat Blues would fit on 1372 Overton Park. This isn't meant as any kind of indictment as the two bands came out about the same time.

This is way better than the Drams album I own (which isn't bad, and even has a song about my town, which is rare). Fucking love it!

Slobberbone fucking rocks and is criminally unappreciated. Glad they're sort of the honorary number two band around here. They really are only secnd to DBT to me. Gumdrop is great just hearing it now.

"Gumdrop" is up there with "Pulaski,Tn" as one of the best songs not on any official release IMO

Matt over at patchndent.com has a live SB show from Atlanta last year ft a certain P. Hood on "Lazy Guy"
it's not a marathon balls-to-the-wall show like the reunion shows but it's great nonetheless, and there's lots of other good shit on his site

http://www.patchndent.com/?p=1015

There's also a nice show from 2003 over at Sloan's site

http://southernshelter.com/2008/04/out- ... bar-62103/

and of course you can download/stream abut 7 Drams shows over on archive.org
http://www.archive.org/search.php?query ... publicdate
they were known to pull out a Slobberbone song here or there and also perform some awesome covers

here's a soundboard of a Gourds show that features Brent on vocals/lead guitar on Cortez the Killer
http://www.archive.org/details/gourds20 ... atrix.flac

Atruersound has quite a few goodies:

The "final" show (before the reunion)
http://atruersound.com/?p=446

The original version of Crow Pot Pie:
http://atruersound.com/?p=352

And an acoustic set (not very good quality):
http://www.mediafire.com/?0dnvwoeze2e

I'll also have another Slobberbone show from 05 up on welfare-music here in the next couple days (as well as some Joey Kneiser ((Glossary)) recordings)

I know I am late to the party, but need to chime in and reiterate how great this band is. I've probably seen them about 8 times in Chicago and they have never disappointed me. I actually came to DBT through Slobberbone -- I saw them play together on a double bill in Chicago in Feb. 2002 and was blown away by DBT, who opened that night (the times they are a changing . . .). I had heard of them before, and this was my first exposure. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Even now, 8 years after the fact, I remember a conversation I had in front of the Abbey Pub while waiting for my friend before that show. Two other guys were talking and one of them was saying . . . about DBT . . . that these guys are fantastic, they will be huge, you will love them, you will always remember this show as the first time you saw the greatest band in America, it is similar to seeing a Springsteen show early in his career. I couldn't help myself, and I chimed in, I agree with everything he said, but would say all those things about Slobberbone, not DBT. Now, 8 years later, I may be firmly entrenched in the DBT camp, but that doesn't mean I don't still love the Slobberbone guys, 'cuz I do.

Man, how great would another DBT/Slobberbone tour be?

Anyway, IMHO, I don't think the Drams or Slobberbone's last CD ("Slippage") is BB's best (!) work. But the three before that are unbelievebly good with some of my favorite songs ever.

Don't think I didn't consider it. the airfare was too rich for my blood and I didn't want to risk a drive like that leaving Chicago in the winter. Now I can only hope for the kindness of strangers and that one of them is recording it.
