Spam away. Thanks for sharing. I really dug that.

Think I need to get in on that vinyl pre-order.

Loved Royal Trux back in the day.

As we near the halfway point, my favorites (in no particular order) so far are:

Freedom's Goblin/Ty Segall
I'm Bad Now/Nap Eyes
Wide Awake/Parquet Courts
Beyondless/Iceage
Songs of Praise/Shame
Tenkiller/Marie/Lepanto
Love Jail/Dommengang
This Is Glue/Salad Boys
Sparkle Hard/Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks
Tell Me How You Really Feel/Courtney Barnett

Still need to dig deep with the new Wussy record and give the new Neko Case album a listen. Looking forward to the new Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and One Eleven Heavy.

this comes out in september. includes early takes on purple rain and strange relationship, and a cover of a case of you.

hopefully a good sign that the estate has a plan to do cohesively themed archive releases like this instead of lazy dumps of whatever unreleased material they find last

theres a track on spotify etc and its great

uh huh. From everything I read, but having not heard the actual album yet, it sounds like the race for album of the year is over. Very exciting.

The lost 1963 album from John Coltrane has won album of the year for 2018?

Impressions is my favorite Coltrane album and I'd heard there was a studio version of that song that was scrapped, but never knew it was part of a lost album. Can't wait.

i usually ignore archive releases come end of year list time but its hard to imagine hearing anything new in 2018 that can top coltrane in his prime. count me in

It hasn't won, I'm predicting that it will win. They date these things from release, not recording. IIRC the Trane/Monk album released a few years ago won a number of polls/awards for the year of its release. Another example is The Basement Tapes which won a lot of polls/awards in the year of its official release even though it was recorded years before and widely available bootlegs had been circulating almost since the date of recording.

I don't doubt it will receive critical acclaim. I also understand and, for the most part, agree with the concept of date recorded versus date released. But I will say there is a big difference on multiple levels between album with a recording/release gap of 8 years (Basement Tapes) and one with a 55-year gap. If it does "win", who says it does and what is the prize?

As the great Doug Sahm would say, be real, baby be real. With new albums this year from titans like Sarah Shook and Phil Cook, Coltrane doesn't stand a chance

I have seen and enjoyed them a few times, but don't know how a record could do the live show justice.

The records are definitely different. You get all the earnestness and none of the Smothers Brothers

Milk Carton Kids now streaming on NPR

They've opened up the sound a little bit (a bit of piano, drums and pedal steel). That doesn't sound like much, but their first three records were strictly two acoustic guitars and that's it

Special guests on the album include Wayne Kramer (MC5), Joe Ely, and Peter Perrett and John Perry of The Only Ones. The sound ranges from straight ahead rockers like, "Sonica USA," to ballads like the classic Joe Ely penned, "Silver City," and everywhere in between. To describe this album as, "epic," might be an understatement.
