RIP Tom Petty 1950-2017

Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

I don't know if this has been posted already but this got me emotional. Especially when he puts his sunglasses on. :(

And those videos from the Hollywood Bowl you can tell Tom is especially tired at the end.

I'd like to say I'm sorry, I'd like to say I'm sorry, I'd like to say I'm sorry...BUT I AIN'T SORRY!

Always loved this song. Haven't been able to hold back the tears listening to it this week.

Love that entire record, but I've been playing "This One's for Me" repeatedly the past couple days. And who other than Tom Petty could pull off a line like "you need elephant balls... " in "Rhino Skin"?

That reminds me, I think
"nauseous adrenaline
Like breaking up a dogfight
Like a deer in the headlights
Frozen in real time
I'm losing my mind"
is as great a verse as has ever been written.
E quindi uscimmo a riveder le stelle.

^^^^ M'lady heard this version last weekend for the first time and declared it was her favorite version of this song by any band.

It's damn good. I love that record and listen to it often. The covers of Fleetwood Mac Oh Well and Thunderclap Newman Something in the Air are pretty amazing too.

The live box set had slipped past my radar. You made a comment a while back about how good it was and I picked it up based on that.

I couldn't believe how much I liked it. Loved it even. It's now my favorite TP record. No shit. Eternal thanks.

You are welcome. It's my go to most of the time too. I think it accurately paints a picture of how much Tom and the rest of the guys not only were the quintessential Rock & Roll band, but how much they loved Rock & Roll themselves.

I was 11 when this happened. I remember hearing about it forever before finally seeing it, because our cable provider didn't offer MTV. I decided around this time Izzy Stradlin was my hero, because any man that can share the stage with the Heartbreakers and the Stones in the same year is the coolest in my book.

He would have been 67 today. They're going to have a birthday tribute on his Sirius station tonight from 5-9, and I think they're going to be playing all of Jason's covers from the Ryman run last week.

I dreamt last night that I met TP in some sort of school or office building. He was wearing a FedEx uniform, and giving me small vials of drugs individually wrapped with $100 bills. Nice guy!
Now it's dark.

one of my few decent pics from the Berkeley August 22 show. I was in 4th row, great seat, I just have no idea how to take a good shot with my phone in artificial lighting. I messed around with iPhone filters a bit

That was an incredible show. I loved Jason’s comments and Lucinda Williams was great too. Almost too much to hear Mike Campbell’s interview though. You gotta feel for the guy.

This one still stings. I get dusty-eyed when I hear certain songs or talk about his music.
