The "How do you rank 'em in the middle of the year?" Thread

Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

Not had time to sit down and make a list, but the Glory Fires album is #1 for me, then a lot of good stuff just below it, such as Moreland, Childers, etc.

I knew I was forgetting something. Glory Fires has to go somewhere on the list. Sometimes it seems #1-y, but some days it doesn't. It's still awesome.

I would probably put it topping my list - maybe undecided with Moreland. Craig Finn. Have also enjoyed Aaron Lee Tasjan.

Kudzu Guillotine wrote:I guess this belongs in an Isbell thread but on the topic of him blowing up, when I saw him play a sold out show at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh shortly after the release of Southeastern in 2013, I had a sneaking suspicion that he'd already outgrown venues of that size. The next time he came to his area, it was with Sturgill at DPAC in Durham which also sold out. As some may recall, that was the show where at least one local writer felt that Sturgill was the more captivating performer on stage that night. I have only seen Isbell in concert one time since, which was also at DPAC but not the same show. When I went, Anderson East was the opener.
What\ever people may think of Sturgill and Isbell, that was one dumb ass review.

The new Waxahatchee record is tremendous, also the new John Murry- A Slight History of Decay has him back to the quality of The Graceless Age. I guess I'm an outlier with my enjoyment of the Sun Kil Moon album. Haven't liked Pure Comedy as much as the prior 2 but still a good listen IMO. The new Yawpers record will surely be at or near the top of my list come Friday

1. Waxahatchee Out in the Storm
2.John Murry- A Slight History of Decay
3.Allison Crutchfield- Tourist in this Town
4.Craig Finn- We all Want the Same Things
5.Sun Kil Moon
6. FJM- Pure Comedy
7.Old 97's-Graveyard Whistling

I guess I need to revisit the Ryan Adams, because it did nothing for me when it first came out. Fresh ears might hear something different

There are a couple brilliant songs on Prisoner, but I don't think it's going to be in my year end top 10.
