Can't argue with that set list.
TC posted something a few months back about listening to the TP Live Anthology box set. I got it for Christmas and honestly can't believe how good it is. It's the not hit songs and covers that I like the best on it.

By the time you drop them I'll be gone

Re: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers 4/20 OKC Tour Opener
About 5 yesterday evening a friend called and said he had a couple tix to this that he wasn't gonna be able to use. Did I want em. For one reason or another i'd always missed seeing them over the years. I had really wanted to see this show as id seen Joe several times back in our 70š heyday so I certainly knew how good he islive. BUT I refuse to give 125 bucks for a ticket to see anybody. So when gus said "Hell I cant use em, just come get em" it was a no brainer for me.
called my eldest daughter she jumped in her car and got to my house about 45 min later and we headed up. We hadn't been to a rock show together since she went with me to see DBT at Cains in '07. so that was way cool.
Extremely good tight show last night. Mike Campbell is an underappreciated guitar beast. Wish Joe had played longer but he was good as usual.
I was reminded however why I swore off big arena shows years ago. This could well have been my last one but well worth it.

Sorry I missed seeing ya'll....It's tougher to find folks in these damn basketball arenas.
I've seen TP many, many times. This was the best setlist I've ever seen him put out there, but not the best show I've seen.
I kind of chalk it up to it being the first gig of the tour. It was missing some of that "x" factor flow. A couple odd gaps between songs; still working on timing etc.
Aso, some of the TP/crowd interaction was awkward....clapping, singing along etc...but this could have just been the OKC crowd.
OKC is a big classic rock kind of town, which means they love the hits. But dive into a segment of deeper cut breakouts, and they can get bored quickly.
And I completely agree on Mike Campbell. I loved his playing for years. Underrated I think, simply because his playing is so understated.
His playing last night really stood out on "Good To Be King" (Petty also excelled here) and "Running Down A Dream". The closing Gretsch guitar feed/back abuse in "American Girl" was fun, although it hurts my heart a bit to see those Gretsches banged around like that!
I've also seen Joe many times, and again, it was really good, but had some of the same critiques as TP's set.
I somehow forgot to track Joe Walsh's setlist, but it was basically this.....
???
Ordinary Average Guy
???
Mother Says
Take It To The Limit (for Glenn Fry)
Turn To Stone
In The City
Life's Been Good
Funk 49
Rocky Mountain Way
That closing segment of TTS thru RMW was about as rock and roll as it gets.

Can't wait! Getting last date of the tour in Seattle (i think there may be a festival gig after though). No Joe Walsh though which is unfortunate. The Lumineers here which is ok.

I'm jealous of all y'all. I really wanted to see one of these shows but the two shows that even made any sense, New Orleans and Memphis, are on days that we have other obligations that we can't get out of. First time I saw him was in 1981 and have probably caught 15-20 shows all told. If this really is the last one I'll be sad I missed it, but damn I've seen some great shows from those guys. One of the greatest bands of all time.
We call him Scooby Do, but Scooby doesn’t do. Scooby, is not involved

Went to the ATL show last night. The thing about a Tom Petty show is that there's no way to time a bathroom & beer break without missing a great song--"Shit, he's playing Walls, keep the change!"
Was also thinking about the contrast with the Mudcrutch show I went to last year. There, he was in bluesy hippie rocker mode, but last night he was a full-on rock star again. He fulfills both roles completely authentically and we're lucky to have him.
