Re: Questions for Smitty
Are you available to help broker peace in the middle east? And if so, what is your peace plan?
Beatles or Stones?
Wilco or Son Volt?
Johnny or Willie?
Merle or Hank?
Kris or Waylon?
If you were the President of the U.S., what would you do to make America great again?
Twitter for presidents: for or against?
Your favorite color and why?
Thank you.

Re: Country music questions for Smitty
why do people who drive massive pickups almost always back into parking spaces?
Son, this ain't a dream no more, it's the real thing

Their truck ownership and their ability to maneuver said vehicle is but compensation for their tiny penises.whatwouldcooleydo? wrote:why do people who drive massive pickups almost always back into parking spaces?

If Elvi is plural for Elvis then peni is the logical plural of penis. Makes perfect sense in a post truth world.Clams wrote:PeniFlea wrote:Why isn't the plural of "penis" "penes"?

Re: Country music questions for Smitty
In Latin, pēnis is a third declension noun ending in -is. Its nominative plural is pēnēs. In English, penis is a noun ending with an s, so its plural is formed by adding -es: Penises. It may also retain the Latin form in the plural: Penes.Tequila Cowboy wrote:If Elvi is plural for Elvis then peni is the logical plural of penis. Re: Country music questions for Smitty
This was actually a real question. A radio show I was listening to last week had a girl in her 20's reviewing records from the 70'sSwamp wrote:Do you hear the country influance on "Toys in the Attic"?
She stated "toys in the attic" had country influance. I don't see it but one of the co-host said back in the day he knew members of run dmc and at first they didn't want to record that "country ass shit" . Like Clams I was just curious. I thought Smitty might have some insight into this.
Carry on.

Regarding Run DMC, wasn't the term "hillbilly gibberish" and wasn't the song Walk This Way?

The song was Walk This Way but she said the album itself had a country influance.Rocky wrote:Regarding Run DMC, wasn't the term "hillbilly gibberish" and wasn't the song Walk This Way?

Re: Country music questions for Smitty
This doesn't answer your question but I always enjoyed R.E.M.'s cover of it (which is not country in the least). Also, around this time (1986) they must have been listening to Toys In the Attic quite a bit as snippets of "Uncle Salty" would find their way into live versions of "We Walk."Swamp wrote:This was actually a real question. Re: Country music questions for Smitty
I don't hear it at all on Toys; there's a country "feel" to earlier songs "Mama Kin" & "Train Kept a Rollin" and in the arrangement of "Same Old Song and Dance", but it's really more of a country-rock/rural blues (think Elmore James via the Allman Brothers) than any straight C&W influence.
I just listened to Toys in the Attic for the first time in forever and I'm dumbfounded. I think the strongest correlation between Aerosmith and country music is the influence albums like Get a Grip (and maybe Pump) had on mid-nineties till now mainstream country. You can hear more Aerosmith in Kenny Chesney than you can hear George Jones in Aerosmith.

I really like Blake Shelton's freind Adam Levine but I hate everything Maroon 5 does. Can you tell me what it means?

I'm more interested in bringing peace to the U.S.
Beatles or Stones?
Joey Kneiser summed it up perfectly:
"Stones. The Rolling Stones always seem like they're having way more fun than the Beatles. For me personally, the Rolling Stones sound like they're from Alabama, so I tend to relate to them a little more. Whereas with the Beatles, I think that they have a little more British sensibility and I think a lot of their later songs start to sound almost like British show tunes. I always liked the Rolling Stones for how gritty and dirty their material is while having a lot of heart."
Wilco or Son Volt?
Wilco
Johnny or Willie?
Johnny
Merle or Hank?
Impossible. Hank's more important, but Merle is absolutely essential.
Kris or Waylon?
Kris, not even close. Of all the c&w legends, Waylon is the most overrated. Great interpreter and a hell of a character, but he was no great songwriter, singer or musician and as far as gaining creative control in the studio, shit Bobby Bare did that years earlier, although he didn't have an unprecedented (by Nashville standards) marketing campaign behind him.
Don't get me wrong, I love listening to Waylon, but he doesn't belong in the same conversation as Hank, Kris, Merle, Willie, etc.
And Kris is c&w's Bob Dylan and perhaps the epitome of what a true social and political justice warrior looks like (not in some sarcastic SJW way, either). He's a champion of lesser known singer songwriters and is about as honest and genuine as they come. It doesn't get better than Kris and it'd be impossible to praise him too much.
I think his music also realizes what Parsons meant by "cosmic American music". His " Live at the Philharmonic " record perfectly encapsulates the union of country, blues, soul and gospel.
That's not even touching on his biography or his filmography. They dont make 'em like Kris anymore.
If you were the President of the U.S., what would you do to make America great again?
Make Kris Kristofferson my senior advisor and do whatever he says.
Twitter for presidents: for or against?
Definitely for. I'm a big fan of the horror-comedy genre.
Your favorite color and why?
Blue, because of the songs. Name a color with better songs written about it (OK, maybe black, but that's my second choice anyway).
