The Magpie Salute who played some shows earlier this year at the Grammercy Theater in New York are putting out their debut album on June 9th. The Magpie Salute consists of Rich Robinson, Marc Ford, Sven Pipien, Joe Magistro, Nico Bereciartua, John Hogg, Charity White (see no mention of her long-time Black Crowes partner Mona Lisa Young), Adrien Reju, and Katrine Ottosen. Don't know about any original tracks, but it looks like there are a healthy dose of Crowe's tunes and Crowes/Rich Robinson covers. Soooooo looking forward to this! :)

Tweedy announces a solo record.

It's just him an acoustic guitar doing intimate versions of Wilco, Golden Smog and Loose Fur songs.

Apparently there will be several of these, but the track list for the initial offering is:

"Via Chicago"
"Laminated Cat"
"Lost Love"
"Muzzle Of Bees"
"Ashes Of American Flags"
"Dawned On Me"
"In A Future Age"
"I'm Trying To Break Your Heart"
"Hummingbird"
"I'm Always In Love"
"Sky Blue Sky"
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

Pokey Lafarge has a new album coming out next month. I dig the single. It's a departure from the old time type stuff he's always done.
Here's the single...Riot In The Streets

a few days back we were behind a slow-driving bluehair and my wife yells, "pick up the pace Pokey Lafarge!!!"

Big fan of Pokey, really disappointed that he finally came to Chico but we were out of town :(

Yup! Raised my expectations quite a bit.

Made me think of this quote from their wikipedia page
The band quickly achieved local attention for its often aggressively long, feedback-soaked improvisations. Influences on the band, which was soon deemed "a seminal force in the city's '80s underground rock evolution", were the Velvet Underground, Neil Young[6] and Television.
...which I dont really think is obvious from the studio albums. Perhaps a "back to the roots" album?

I never made the Television connection (it's certainly there), but I absolutely hear the VU/NY&CH fingerprints all over The Days of Wine and Roses.

Listened to that album again yesterday, and yes I agree, the VU reference is actually pretty accurate.

New Waterboys. I think it's the same band as the last album , so David Hood will be on it again.

Image
The Waterboys will release their brand-new studio double album Out Of All This Blue on September 8 2017; their first for BMG Records, with whom they recently signed.

Produced by Mike Scott and recorded in Dublin and Tokyo, Out Of All This Blue will be available on Double CD and Double Vinyl, pluse Deluxe Triple CD (including Bonus Tracks) and Deluxe Triple Vinyl (including Bonus Tracks) and Digital.

Out Of All This Blue is The Waterboys most exploratory recording yet, comprising 23 songs with Mike Scott's trademark sharp lyrics set to pop music with echoes of classic R&B, country, soul and funk and underpinned by modern hiphop production values and rhythms. String & brass sections were arranged and conducted by Try Pollard of The Spacebomb Collective. Mike Scott says of the record: "Out Of All This Blue is 2/3 love and romance, 1/3 stories and observations. I knew from the beginning I wanted to make a double album, and lucky for me - and I hope the listener - the songs just kept coming, and in pop colours."
"Guitars talk. If you really want to write a song, ask a guitar." Neil Young

I'm stunned I haven't seen a lot of talk about Tyler Childers here. Has one coming out in August called "Purgatory" produced by Sturgill.

Gregg Allman's Southern Blood is due September 8th. I believe this is the first tune to be released from it.

Turnpike Troubadours "A Long Way From Your Heart" out October 20th. Right in the heart of harvest for me.

Not sure what to make of the producer's credits. Maybe this will be more of an Isbell-esque attempt at an Americana break through. The new song they played in Des Moines back in June was fairly straight-ahead rock. The good news is that they definitely aren't leaning anywhere near bro-country.
