I think I'm the opposite of you guys. I usually love records immediately but soon realize I don't trust it and have to put them away a few months for a real reaction. Sometimes I do just know and am singing the songs on the second listen and this was one of those. Truly glad that this one grew on you Clams.Zip City wrote:I almost always have luke warm reactions to new releases. We call him Scooby Do, but Scooby doesn’t do. Scooby, is not involved

Agreed with TC. If I like a record immediately that's not always a good sign as I tend to burn out on them fairly easy. Growers tend to have a longer life with me.

This finally arrived. Worth the wait and then some. Fantastic album. Will easily make my 2015 top ten in a walk.

Re: James McMurtry Thread
Incredible song. Hits me in a similar way Neil's "Ramada Inn" does. Different places, different characters, different details, different musical arrangements, but the nostalgia, the desire to rise above the melancholy, the yearning to recapture some of that earlier magic by heading back to familiar ground - a Ramada Inn along the California coast or The Copper Canteen. McMurtry crafts a more detailed song, but both are great songs by two of my favorite artists that still can knock it out of the part on the back nine. Not sure it's been mentioned in this thread, but it's hard to believe it's been seven years since Just Us Kids. Where does the time go? That record cemented my love for McMurtry's work. This new one is excellent, too. What a great, underrated treasure.Iowan wrote:Copper Canteen.
Holy fuck, is that song so many people I know.

Only been 3 full runs through, but still waiting...Kids hit me immediately (but as has been said......)

It took several spins of Complicated Game before I was hooked. Now I can't stop.ramonz wrote:Only been 3 full runs through, but still waiting...Kids hit me immediately (but as has been said......)
Re: James McMurtry Thread
Have a great week of shows coming up in my music world. Jay Farrar Friday, James on Monday, and Dirt Underneath following Saturday. As far as Complicated Game, I loved it from first listen. He has played Copper Canteen for a couple years, so I knew how great that song was.....and saw These Things last year as well as How'm I Gonna Find You. Carlisles Haul is destined to be a James classic. What a great story. Long Island Sound also another favorite. Am hoping he plays a great deal of it in Bloomington.

Tonight at World Cafe Live
He pretty much had me in the first 15 minutes:
1. Bayou Tortue
2. Where'd Ya Get That Red Dress
3. Just Us Kids
The new stuff was just gravy

Yay. Thats how a PRS should look. Hate the look of those polished "furniture guitars" the blues lawyers and dentists carry around.Clams wrote:

Thankfully, no. And neither did mine.Gator McKlusky wrote:Did his car get towed again?
He was actually in a pretty good mood. Very chatty (even though you could barely understand a word he was saying).
Yeah all their gear looked pretty well worn. The PRS was all beaten up and check out that amp behind him.RolanK wrote:Yay. Thats how a PRS should look. Hate the look of those polished "furniture guitars" the blues lawyers and dentists carry around.Clams wrote:

Btw if anyone's seeing an upcoming show on this run, you should get there early enough to see the opener Max Gomez. His set was very good.

Thanks for the heads up. It's looking like rain in the weekend forecast, so I think I'll be heading to Minneapolis on Saturday.Clams wrote:Btw if anyone's seeing an upcoming show on this run, you should get there early enough to see the opener Max Gomez. His set was very good.

I'm down on the forgotten coast right now. Go to St. George Island 2 or 3 times every year. First came here in 1970 when I got to FSU. Video filmed in Carabelle and East Point, on the mainland.Smitty wrote:
