I didn't keep good enough spreadsheets, I fear. Putting this together is too intimidating
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

I combed back through the year-end threads we've done here and noted the entries I still love from each year.

After that it was pretty scattershot, and I pretty much winged the order off of how I was feeling at the moment. I think it's pretty damn close to how I've truly felt.

As i've mentioned before, I haven't listened to much new music in the past few years, certainly not enough to compile anything approaching a knowledgeable or comprehensive decade list. So this is more or less my best of 2010-15 w/ a couple of later albums thrown in. The multiple albums listed for a few artists means either I couldn't distinguish between virtually equal albums or that the artist gets a "decade achievement award" for consistently good work though perhaps w/out a defining moment. Admittedly the Wild Flag/Ex Hex listing pushes the concept at least as far as it will go but I thought Mary Timony deserved to be recognized. The Promise would have been near the top of the list for '78 (Darkness was my pick for album of that year) and might have made my 70's decade list so I see no problem including it on the list for the decade in which it was actually released. American Band grabs the top spot for being most listened to. The others are in a very loose order to which I am not committed. Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse's Dark Night of the Soul topped my 2010 list and I thought about including it here, but I really don't listen to it anymore and imho only parts of it hold up.

Anybody ever heard/heard of Mannequin Pussy? Rob Sheffield calls them his band of the decade but I've literally never heard of them and haven't heard any of the 3 albums he mentions.

DBT – American Band
Bruce Springsteen – The Promise
Bettye LaVette – Things Have Changed
Robbie Robertson – How to Become Clairvoyant
Lydia Loveless – Somewhere Else/Boy Crazy
Dexateens – Sunsphere/Teenage Hallelujah
Leonard Cohen – Popular Problems
A Tribe Called Quest – We Got It From Here…Thank You 4 Your Service
Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp A Butterfly
Chuck Prophet – Temple Beautiful/Night Surfer

Car Seat Headrest – Teens of Denial
Wussy - Attica
David Bowie - Blackstar
DBT – Go Go Boots/English Oceans
Patterson Hood – Heat Lightning Rumbles in the Distance
Jason Isbell – Southeastern
Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires – Dereconstructed
Neil Young – Americana/Le Noise/Psychedelic Pill/Live at the Cellar Door
Sturgill Simpson – Metamodern Sounds in Country Music
Glossary – Feral Fire

Wild Flag - s/t/Ex Hex – Rips
Heartless Bastards - Arrow
Adele – 21
