This is pretty cool if you dig the Lips.

The Lips are about my favorite band in the world. On short list with DBT, Wilco, Neil Finn, NIN.

Nice article. I enjoy Patterson's prose writing. This one does end kind of abruptly though.

great drummer, in the best of the line ups that Bowie used in the mid/late 70's

edit - and Iggy's band too.

Indeed. Him and George Murray made up a fantastic rhythm section. R.I.P

Bowiebranchia

Nudibranchia or other opisthobranchia compared to the various looks of David Bowie.

And for the piece de resistance:

Not Bowie, but Prince when he paid tribute to Bowie. This is Bowiebranchia’s tribute to Prince. Now they both may fill the universe with their art and music, across all dimensions and time.

So, uh, I was all excited for Blackstar, and went through a phase of listening to his previous albums. Then Blackstar then two days later he was dead.

The first rock musician I ever "got" - Aladdin Sane age 12 or 13. Been a fan ever since. I don't listen to Blackstar too much - its too sad.

But I have been pounding he hell out of my ten favourites. Oh yes.
I've never taken a pissbreak during a DBT show but if I had it would have been during Dancing Ricky.

How David Bowie Helped Create an Art Hoax

This is just too wonderful to be true. Appropriate, really.

Priscilla Gilman wrote:Growing up on the Upper West Side in the 1970s and ’80s, as a theater girl, I’d considered David Bowie the epitome of cool: glamorous and dangerous. I’d tacked postcards of the cigarette-smoking, staggeringly beautiful rock star to my bulletin board above the white desk where I did my math homework. I played his albums over and over on my record player. His songs were the soundtrack for my kissing boys at smoky parties. I danced exuberantly with friends at his concerts. Bowie was a messenger from an alluring, alien dimension who broke open and contradicted our upright, ordinary world. But for Benj, it wasn’t about Bowie’s glamour or beauty or decadence; it was about the essential message of his career and life: be true to yourself, forge your own unique identity, be confident in your own beautiful uniqueness, seek sublimity and ecstatic transport.
