Avett Brothers release the first single off the new album. Their recent arrangement/production choices are baffling. They are dressing up solid songwriting in fluffy pop production. Not sure who they are trying to appeal to anymore

Niiiice. Has a Parliament/Funkadelic/Circles Around the Sun vibe. Yep, I like it.

The remix of Magheetah really does sound different. I'm curious to dig into this reissue, because it's going to be a totally different experience than the original. I'm holding judgment on whether that's a good thing or not until I've let it sink in

That sounds pretty good. Less flat, more 3d than the original.

I've been comparing the mixes by going song by song all morning. The new mix is much brighter, much more like the sound MMJ has gone for since that time, and if it came out today I would probably love it, but the original had a murkiness that's become so familiar that this new mix is a bit jarring. It Still Moves is by far and away my favorite MMJ record and the bottom line is that the new does not detract from the old but it sure is different.

June is going to be a busy month. New records from Band of Horses, Felice Brothers and Avett Brothers. The BoH I approach with great trepidation, though, as their last record was a dumpster fire
