Re: BIG STAR might change your life...
OK, when Patterson covers "I'm in Love with a Girl", he sings " all that a man can do is try", which is what I hear on the original record.
BUT when Lucero covered it on their last record, Ben sings "all that a man can do is true" which makes no fucking sense. My first thought is Ben just fucked it up, but then again he's got Jody Stephens playing on the track, so maybe he knows something I don't.
What gives?

E quindi uscimmo a riveder le stelle.

Walked into the atrium on the far side of security at Portland OR airport on Sunday and the "official busker" or entertainer was doing a very credible version of "thirteen." I threw some money in the jar and complimented him on his good taste.

That song has always meant a lot to me because In 1982 I got into an argument with my girlfriends father when he mixed up Paint It Black, with, Black Is Black, by Los Bravos, claiming that it was a Stones song. Guess how old I was when this argument took place?

There was a big star question (answer?) on Jeopardy. Seemed like it was last nite, but recently in any case. Nobody got it. The lack of culture in this country is shocking.

Masterpiece. So sad that Chilton & Bell didn't continue. This record is pure magic.Kudzu Guillotine wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 11:13 pmBig Star's #1 Record was released on this day 50 years ago.

Elizabeth Nelson on #1 Record:
"A thirty-seven minute miracle of shuddering genius and shambling happenstance, Big Star’s ‘#1 Record’ weaves together the anxious eight-miles-high jangle of the Byrds and the diamond hard majesty of Memphis blues. Alex Chilton and Chris Bell are the shadow world Lennon-McCartney."
