Pray for You---Jaron and the Long Road to Love

This is some whimsy for you alll

Haven’t been in church since
I don’t remember when
Things were going great
Til they fell apart again
So I listened to the preacher
As he told me what to do
Said you can’t go hating othes
who done wrong to you
Sometimes we get angry
But we must not condemn
Let the good Lord do his job
And you just pray for them

I pray your brakes go out
Running down a hill
I pray and flower pot falls
From a window sill
And knocks you in the head like I’d like to
I pray your birthday comes and nobody calls
I pray your flying high when your engine stalls
I pray all your dreams never come true
Just know wherever you are
Honey, I pray for you

Really glad I found my way to church
Cause I’m already feeling better and I thank God for the words
So I’m gonna take the high road
And do what the preacher told me to do
You keep messing up
And I’ll keep praying for you

I pray your tire blows out at 110
I pray you pass out with your best friend
And wake up with his and her tattoos

Wherever you are, near or far, in your house or in your car
Wherever you are honey, I pray for you

Willie Nelson - Hands On The Wheel

At a time when the world seems to be spinnin'
Hoplessly out of control
There's deceivers and believers and old in-betweeners
That seem to have no place to go

Well it's the same old song, it's right and it's wrong
And livin' is just something that I do
And with no place to hide, I looked in your eyes
And I found myself in you

I looked to the stars, tried all of the bars
And I've nearly gone up in smoke
Now my hand's on the wheel of somethin' that's real
And I feel like I'm goin' home

And in the shade of an oak, down by the river
Sat an old man and a boy
Settin' sails, spinnin tales, and fishin' for whales
With a lady that they both enjoy

Well it's the same damn tune, it's the man in the moon
It's the way that I feel about you
And with no place to hide, I looked in your eyes
And I found myself in you

And I looked to the stars, tried all of the bars
And I've nearly gone up in smoke
Now my hand's on the wheel of somethin' that's real
And I feel like I'm goin' home
Wound up bleeding on the bar floor
We don't bet on the ball no more

"Free In You" Indigo Girls

A hard knock
A cold clock
Ticking off my time
A long look
But no luck
Couldn't seem to find
Or unwind
Into peace of mind
While I was trying

A quick glance
A big chance
My heart beat like a drum
I saw you
And I knew
Chances just don't come
Round again
Not like this
First a laugh
Then a kiss

And I'm free in you
I've got no worries on my mind
I know what to do
That's to treat you right
And love you kind
Thank you ever on my mind
Love is just like breathing
When it's true
And I'm free in you

The lost time
And self pride
Are my big mistakes
A clear voice
A bad choice
Sounding like an ache
In my day
Not too bad
But too real
To go away

But now I'm free in you
I've got no worries on my mind
I know what to do
That's to treat you right
And love you kind
Thank you ever on my mind
Love is just like breathing
When it's true
And I'm free in you

And I don't know
How you show
Such gentle disregard
For the ugly in me
That I see
That for so long
I took so hard
(I took so hard)
And I truly believe
(I truly believe)
That you see the best in me
(That you see the best in me)
I'm enough, for your love
and the thought sets me free

Free in you
Got no worries on my mind
I know what to do
That's to treat you right
And love you kind
Thank you ever on my mind
Love is just like breathing
When it's true
And I'm free in you
Yes I'm free in you

This one doesn't make me sad, but it does get to me just the same.

I wanna love you and treat you right;
I wanna love you every day and every night:
We'll be together with a roof right over our heads;
We'll share the shelter of my single bed;
We'll share the same room, yeah! - for Jah provide the bread.
Is this love - is this love - is this love -
Is this love that I'm feelin'?
Is this love - is this love - is this love -
Is this love that I'm feelin'?
I wanna know - wanna know - wanna know now!
I got to know - got to know - got to know now!

I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I - I'm willing and able,
So I throw my cards on your table!
I wanna love you - I wanna love and treat - love and treat you right;
I wanna love you every day and every night:
We'll be together, yeah! - with a roof right over our heads;
We'll share the shelter, yeah, oh now! - of my single bed;
We'll share the same room, yeah! - for Jah provide the bread.

Is this love - is this love - is this love -
Is this love that I'm feelin'?
Is this love - is this love - is this love -
Is this love that I'm feelin'?
Wo-o-o-oah! Oh yes, I know; yes, I know - yes, I know now!
Yes, I know; yes, I know - yes, I know now!

I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I - I'm willing and able,
So I throw my cards on your table!
See: I wanna love ya, I wanna love and treat ya -
love and treat ya right.
I wanna love you every day and every night:
We'll be together, with a roof right over our heads!
We'll share the shelter of my single bed;
We'll share the same room, yeah! Jah provide the bread.
We'll share the shelter of my single bed

I can't believe life's so complex
When I just wanna' sit here and watch you undress
This is love that I'm feeling
Does it have to be a life full of dread?
I wanna' chase you round the table, I wanna' touch your head
This is love that I'm feeling
I can't believe that the axis turns on suffering
When you taste so good
I can't believe that the axis turns on suffering
While my head burns
This is love that I'm feeling
Even in the summer, even in the spring
You can never get too much of a wonderful thing

You're the only story that I never told
You're my dirty little secret, wanna' keep you so
Come on out, come on over, help me forget
Keep the walls from falling on me, tumbling in
- This is love that I'm feeling

Monster Ballads - Josh Ritter

Radio waves are coming miles and miles
Bringing only empty boats
Whatever feeling they had when they sailed
Somehow slipped out between the notes

Out on the desert now and feeling lost
The bonnet wears a wire albatross
Monster ballads and the stations of the cross
Sighing just a little bit
Sighing just a little bit

And I was thinking 'bout what Katy done
Thinking 'bout what Katy did
The fairest daughter of the Pharaoh's son
Dressed in gold 'neath pyramids

Out on the desert now and feeling lost
The bonnet wears a wire albatross
Monster ballads and the stations of the cross
Sighing just a little bit
Sighing just a little bit

Ones and zeroes bleeding mesa noise
And when you're empty there's so much space for them
You turn it off but then a still small voice
Comes in blazing from some vast horizon

And I was thinking 'bout my river days I was thinking 'bout me and Jim
Passing Cairo on a getaway
With every steamboat like a hymn

Out on the desert now I'm feeling lost
The bonnet wears a wire albatross
Monster ballads and the stations of the cross
Sighing just a little bit
Smiling just a little bit
ain't no static on the gospel radio

WATERFALL
NOTHING CAN HARM ME AT ALL
MY WORRIES SEEM SO VERY SMALL
WITH MY WATERFALL

I CAN SEE MY RAINBOW CALLING ME YEAH
THROUGH THE MISTY BREEZE OF MY WATERFALL

SOME PEOPLE SAY DAY-DREAMING IS
FOR THE ALL THE LAZY MINDED FOOLS WITH NOTHING ELSE TO DO

SO LET THEM LAUGH LAUGH AT ME
SO JUST AS LONG AS I HAVE YOU TO SEE ME THROUGH
I HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE LONG AS I HAVE YOU

WATERFALL
DON'T EVER CHANGE YOUR WAYS
FALL WITH WE FOR A MILLION DAYS
OH MY WATERFALL

May This Be Love - Jimi Hendrix

We all cried at the ending
We all stayed for the credits
And i kept my ticket as a souvenir

We found our way by the usher's light
To the place outside where we parked the bikes
Underneath a neon sign

Matinee
Hey hey
Why go late
When the movies are cheaper during the day?

We come down about twice a week
To put our feet on the theatre seats
Admission's cheap & the soda's free

Well, my best friend's girl works the ticketstand
When the boss is gone, she gets us in
We all see a matinee

Matinee
Hey hey
Why go late
When the movies are cheaper during the day?

We all cried at the ending
We all stayed for the credits
And i kept my ticket as a souvenir

My best friend's girl works the ticketstand
When the boss is gone, she gets us in
We all see a matinee

Matinee
Hey hey
Why go late

Meltdown- Slobberbone
Ten minutes to meltdown, I'm having a drink
And I don't think you care, no I don't even think
About you or the hands that you say you don't love
As you hold them so tight while the sky up above
Opens up and rains down with an unholy bore
There's holes in the ceiling, there's holes in the floor
There's holes in these walls all so covered with grime
Hey Baby, it's the end of the world, have a good time

Tectonically speaking integrity's lost
Still I don't feel foundation was ever at cost
Just some old bricks and mortar, some holes to be filled
This plywood and prefab can all be rebuilt
It's just toothpicks and twine, some matchsticks and paste
But it's all too late now, oh my god what a waste
And I feel the ground shaking, I hear a strange sound
Hey Baby, it's the end of the world, I will see you around
Affection is earthbound, our crushes of stone
But these all fall away, still you're never alone
When your one mode of function's steadfast deconstuction
Of attachments once forged with a fiery rambunction
And I can't help but think way before the big sink
That the streets of Atlantis already held a stink
And I can't help but know way deep down in my soul
That the best has already come and now it's time to go
So sign all your yearbooks, give a last glance
We've all missed the prom, still you're used to this dance
Soon a figureless shadow will drown out the sun
Hey Baby, it's the end of the world, I hope you have fun
I hope you have fun
"Hell's filling up with Republicans"

Inspired by the Kozelek thread. Likely my favorite song of his.

Red House Painters - "Katy Song"

some escape some door to open
this path seems the blackest but i
guess it's the soonest
but there in the clearing i
know you'll be wearing
your young aching smile and
waving your hand
can't go with my heart when i
can't feel what's in it i
thought you'd come over
but for some reason you didn't
glass on the pavement under my shoe
without you is all my life amounts to

a final sleep no
words from my cutting
mouth to your ear or
taut wicked pinches
from my fingers to your bitter face
that i can't heal
i know tomorrow
you will be
somewhere in london
living with someone
you've got some kind of family
there to turn to
and that's more than i could ever give you

a chance for calm
a hope for freedom
outlet from my cold solitary kingdom
by the forest of our spring stay
where you walked away
and left a bleeding part of me
empty and bothered
watching the water
quiet in the corner
numb and falling through
without you what does my life amount to?
Wound up bleeding on the bar floor
We don't bet on the ball no more

that high haunted feeling
when you're driving home alone
on a deep September midnight
with the gospel radio on

and there ain't no wind or rain outside
but there's lightning in the sky
and you think somewhere inside yourself
there might have been a girl one time

there might have been a girl one time
back there a year or two
you could have loved your lifetime
but you let her slide on through

and now her face is fogging up
on the mirror of your mind
her smile is dim and dusty
and her eyes are rusted blind

rusted like a padlock
on an old forgotten door
that ain't been touched in ages
now the key don't turn no more

now the key won't turn
and so you're driving home alone
on a deep September midnight
with the gospel radio on

you better tune it in and turn it on
satellite signal falling out of the sky
just like the bloodred teardrop from your eye
you better tune it in and turn it on

Artist: Avett Brothers
Song: The Ballad Of Love And Hate
Album: Emotionalism

Love writes a letter and sends it to Hate.
"My vacations ending. I'm coming home late.
The weather was fine and the ocean was great
and I can't wait to see you again."

Hate reads the letter and throws it away.
"No one here cares if you go or you stay.
I barely even noticed that you were away.
I'll see you or I won't, whatever."

Love sings a song as she sails through the sky.
The water looks bluer through her pretty eyes.
And everyone knows it whenever she flies,
and also when she comes down.

Hate keeps his head up and walks through the street.
Every stranger and drifter he greets.
And shakes hands with every loner he meets
with a serious look on his face.

Love arrives safely with suitcase in tow.
Carrying with her the good things we know.
A reason to live and a reason to grow.
To trust. To hope. To care.

Hate sits alone on the hood of his car.
Without much regard to the moon or the stars.
Lazily killing the last of a jar
of the strongest stuff you can drink.

Love takes a taxi, a young man drives.
As soon as he sees her, hope fills his eyes.
But tears follow after, at the end of the ride,
cause he might never see her again.

Hate gets home lucky to still be alive.
He screams o'er the sidewalk and into the drive.
The clock in the kitchen says 2:55,
And the clock in the kitchen is slow.

Love has been waiting, patient and kind.
Just wanting a phone call or some kind of sign,
That the one that she cares for, who's out of his mind,
Will make it back safe to her arms.

Hate stumbles forward and leans in the door.
Weary head hung, eyes to the floor.
He says "Love, I'm sorry", and she says, "What for?
I'm your and that's it, Whatever.
I should not have been gone for so long.
I'm your's and that's it, forever."

You're mine and that's it, forever.
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

Zip's post reminded me of this song. We all know people this song was written about.

The Weight of Lies by Avett Brothers

Disappear from your hometown
Go and find the people that you know
Show them all your good parts
Leave town when the bad ones start to show
Go and wed a woman, a pretty girl that you’ve never met
Make sure she knows you love her well
But don’t make any other promises

The weight of lies will bring you down
And follow you to every town
Cause nothin happens here
That doesn’t happen there
So when you run make sure you run
To something and not away from
Cause lies don’t need an aero plane
To chase you anywhere

I once heard the worse thing
A man can do is draw a hungry crowd.
Tell everyone his name in pride an confidence
But leaving out his doubt.
I’m not sure I bought those words
When I was young I knew most everything.
These words have never meant as much to anyone
As they now mean to me.

The weight of lies will bring you down
And follow you to every town,
Cause nothin happens here that doesn’t happen there.
So when you run make sure you run
To something and not away from,
Cause lies don’t need an aero plane
To chase you down.

The weight of lies will bring you down
And follow you to every town,
Cause nothin happens here that doesn’t happen there.
So when you run make sure you run
To something and not away from,
Cause lies don’t need an aero plane
To chase you anywhere.

The weight of lies will bring you down
And follow you to every town,
Cause nothin happens here that doesn’t happen there.
So when you run make sure you run
To something and not away from,
Cause lies don’t need an aero plane
To chase you down
Can you hear that singing? Sounds like gold...

This whole thread could be the Avett Brothers:

The Perfect Space:

I wanna have friends that I can trust,
that love me for the man I've become not the man I was.
I wanna have friends that will let me be
all alone when being alone is all that I need.

I wanna fit in to the perfect space,
feel natural and safe in a volatile place.
And I wanna grow old without the pain,
give my body back to the earth and not complain.
Will you understand when I am too old of a man?
And will you forget when we have paid our debt
who did we borrow from? Who did we borrow from?

Okay part two now clear the house.
The party's over take the shouting and the people, get out!
I have some business and a promise that I have to hold to.
I do not care what you assume or what the people told you.

Will you understand, when I am too old of a man?
Will you forget when we have paid our debts,
who did we borrow from? Who did borrow from?

I wanna have pride like my mother has,
And not like the kind in the bible that turns you bad.
And I wanna have friends that I can trust,
that love me for the man I've become and not the man that I was.
Somewhere between anguish and acceptance.

the Avett's have fantastic lyrics, even if they are like 100% positive all the time (which, to some, isn't particularly rock n' roll). I love em', and have enjoyed digging into their catalog
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

I know they say you can’t go home again
I just had to come back one last time
Ma’am I know you don’t know me from Adam
But these handprints on the front steps are mine

Up those stairs in that little back bedroom
Is where I did my homework and I learned to play guitar
I bet you didn’t know under that live oak
My favorite dog is buried in the yard

I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing
Out here it’s like I’m someone else
I thought that maybe I could find myself
If I could just come in I swear I’ll leave
Won’t take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me

Mama cut out pictures of houses for years
From Better Homes and Gardens magazine
Plans were drawn and concrete poured
Nail by nail and board by board
Daddy gave life to mama’s dream

I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing
Out here it’s like I’m someone else
I thought that maybe I could find myself
If I could just come in I swear I’ll leave
Won’t take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me

You leave home and you move on and you do the best you can
I got lost in this old world and forgot who I am

I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing
Out here it’s like I’m someone else
I thought that maybe I could find myself
If I walk around I swear I’ll leave
Won’t take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me

well i wish i knew what i could say or do
that would give me another chance with you
well i was mean as i could be but i wish that you could see
i never meant for you to end up hating me

yeah i wish i knew, i still had you that i wish i knew
hell i wish i knew, that we weren't through i wish i knew

well you dont talk to me no more, ever since you left my door
and its killing me each time i hear that old train roar
well i know you're not at home and i'm still holding on
but every day i'm stuck singing this same old song

yeah i wish i knew, i still had you that, i wish i knew
hell i wish i knew, that we weren't through, i wish i knew
how i wish i knew, that i still had you
how i wish i knew, that we weren't through

how i wish i knew, that i still had you
how i wish i knew

a Jackson Browne 3fer (this guy too, could have his own thread)

Farther On

In my early years I hid my tears
And passed my days alone
Adrift on an ocean of loneliness
My dreams like nets were thrown
To catch the love that I'd heard of
In books and films and songs
Now there's a world of illusion and fantasy
In the place where the real world belongs
Now I look for the beauty in songs
To fill my head and lead me on
Though my dreams have come up torn and empty
As many times as love has come and gone
To those gentle ones my memory runs
To the laughter we shared at the meals
I filled their kitchens and living rooms
With my schemes and my broken wheels
It was never clear how far or near
The gates to my citadel lay
They were cutting from stone some dreams of their own
But they listened to mine anyway
I'm not sure what I'm trying to say
It could be I've lost my way
Though I keep a watch over the distance
Heaven's no closer than it was yesterday
And the angels are older
They know not to wait up for the sun
They look over my shoulder
At the maps and the drawings of the journey I've begun
Now the distance leads me farther on
Though the reasons I once had are gone
I keep thinking I'll find what I'm looking for
In the sand beneath the dawn
But the angels are older
They can see that the sun's setting fast
They look over my shoulder
At the vision of paradise
Contained in the light of the past
And they lay down behind me
To sleep beside the road 'til the morning has come
Where they know they will find me
With my maps and my faith in the distance
Moving farther on

Ready Or Not

Someone's going to have to explain it to me
I'm not sure what it means
My baby's feeling funny in the morning
She's having trouble getting into her jeans
Her waist-line seems to be expanding
Although she never feels like eating a thing
I guess we'll reach some understanding
When we see what the future will bring

I met her in a crowded barroom
One of those typical Hollywood scenes
I was doing my very best Bogart
But I was having trouble getting into her jeans
I punched an unemployed actor
Defending her dignity
He stood up and knocked me through that barroom door
And that girl came home with me

Now baby's feeling funny in the morning
She says she's got a lot on her mind
Nature didn't give her any warning
Now she's going to have to leave her wild ways behind
She says she doesn't care if she never spends
Another night running loose on the town
She's gonna be a mother
Take a look in my eyes and tell me brother
If I look like I'm ready

I told her I had always lived alone
And I probably always would
And all I wanted was my freedom
And she told me that she understood
But I let her do some of my laundry
And she slipped a few meals in between
And the next thing I remember, she was all moved in
And I was buying her a washing machine

My baby's feeling funny in the morning
She says she's got a lot on her mind
Nature didn't give her any warning
But she's feeling better about it all the time
She says she's ready for some meaning
After all of her running around
Well bless my soul, she's got a rock-and-roll bandman
Thinking 'bout settling down

Of Missing Persons
(Lowell George tribute)

Your father was a rounder
He played that rock and roll
A leaper and a bounder
Down to his gypsy soul
The music was his angel
And sorrow was his star
And those of us who follow
Might hope to reach as far
They're walking slow in Houston
Speechless in D.C.
There was no way I could tell you
What he meant to me
Your mother's a survivor
She'll do what must be done
Her children will revive her
And help her see the sun
She almost knew that unison
But the singing stopped too soon
Now she shares the silence
With a man up in the moon
To speak of missing persons
Tonight there's only one
And we all carry with us what the man's begun
And you can sing this song
On July the Fourth
In the sunny south and the frozen north
It's a day of loss, it's your day of birth
Does it take a death to learn what a life is worth?
Your brothers are all older
And they'll take it in their stride
The world's a little colder
But manhood's on their side
Now you're the little girl-child
And you look so much like him
And he's right there inside you
Each time you want to sing
Sing of missing persons
Tonight there's only one
But he's where you can find him when it's said and done
And we will sing this song
On July the Fourth
In the sunny south and the frozen north
This will always be your day of birth
May you always see what your life is worth
A thousand clusterfucks will not kill my tiny light

Nice. Makes me think of this...

Looking through some photographs I found inside a drawer
I was taken by a photograph of you
There were one or two I know that you would have liked a little more
But they didn't show your spirit quite as true

You were turning 'round to see who was behind you
And I took your childish laughter by surprise
And at the moment that my camera happened to find you
There was just a trace of sorrow in your eyes

and this...

Everyone I've ever known has wished me well
Anyway that's how it seems, it's hard to tell
Maybe people only ask you how you're doin'
'Cause that's easier than letting on how little they can care
But when you know that you've got a real friend somewhere
Suddenly all the others are so much easier to bear

and this....

Into a dancer you have grown
From a seed somebody else has thrown
Go on ahead and throw some seeds of your own
And somewhere between the time you arrive
And the time you go
May lie a reason you were alive
But you’ll never know

what a great record
If you don't run you rust

To go with Smitty's Danny Hutchins contribution...

End of the Show- Bloodkin

Leaned over and gave her a kiss,
She blew up in my face
I didn't even know her name,
Outside the party was dark and cloudy
Smoke was pouring out of the kitchen
I was thinking bout the price of admission
Waitin' for the knock on the door
Feelin like I'd been there before

Teddy stood up from the couch and said
"Maria's killing me,
You oughta see her dressed in body black leather,
She's a Goddamned cat in heat.
She's the meanest, saddest girl
This whole town is ever sighed about
Only comes out at night
Fallen angel under the streetlight
Crooked straight, she's filthy innocent
I'd rather cut myself than forget about her"

Oh, the sky had fallen
There was no doubt about it
Fat crippled lady in the room upstairs
Practicing her banjo.
Preacher in the room downstairs
Putting on his midnight mascara
There's a fag bar opening downtown
His rooms are sharp and yellow

Everybody's waiting to find the last drink
The last word to say
The last place to go
The end of the show
Can you hear that singing? Sounds like gold...

Cover Me by Eddie Hinton
Cover me, cover me
Spread your precious love all over me
Oh can't you see the need in me
Oh cover me, cover me

Hide me, hide me
Where no other love can find me

Oh I'm feeling cold, I need you so
Oh cover me, cover me

Girl, my love for you gets stronger everyday
Oh, temptation might be waiting round the way
When I'm lost and I get led astray
Find me, find me
Can't stop the little tear that blinds me
Oh darling, I don't want to lose you
Oh find me

Stay with me, stay with me
Baby, make it all the way with me
Oh everyday and every way
Stay with me, stay with me

Cover me, cover me
Spread your precious love all over me
Oh can't you see the need in me
Oh cover me, cover me

well, I watch the war on TV
every night before I sleep
with my gun beneath my pillow
and no soul left for the Lord to keep
hey now history's an etch-a-sketch
facts and figures are dominoes
I'll carve my statue of the truth
I'll take a few of you with me when I go

&

there's a girl on that barstool
crying into her phone
telling someone, "Please, I fucked up,
baby come and take me home"
and don't I remember how she feels
and don't I remember why
I remember the night I broke her heart
and felt my well run dry

(chorus)
that first night I came downtown
I got painted like a clown
my friends and I got drunk and loud
we lasted years I don't know how
til there's nothing left to celebrate now
and this is my last night out
this is my last night out, hey
this is my last night out

and there's a beggar in that doorway
and he's giving me the eye
holding out his shaky hand
asking for an alibi
and I tell him I've got no faith for him
and I tell him I've got no change
and I feel just the way he looks
and I feel so ashamed

(chorus)

so I'm heading back up to the hills all alone
locking my door, disconnecting my phone
sobering up and loading my shotgun
you better stay off of my lawn

now the President's on my TV screen
stumbling through some scripted lie
some say he's a serial killer
some say he deserves to die
the American Century is over
stick a fork in the 4th of July
the future ain't nothing but fire and fuel
and now our well's run dry

(chorus)

this is my last night out, hey
this is my last night out

These lyrics always get me thinking:

When the wagons leave the city
For the forest and further on
Painted wagons of the morning
Dusty roads where they have gone

Sometimes travelin' through the darkness
Met the summer comin' home
Falling faces by the wayside
Look as if they might've known

All the sun was in their eyes
And the desert that's dry
In a country town
Where the laughter sound

Oh the dancing and the singing
Oh the music when they play
Oh the fire that they started
All the girls with no regret

Sometimes they found it
Sometimes they kept it
Often lost in on the way
Fought each other to posses it
Sometimes die in sight of day

Oh the sun was in their eyes
And the desert that's dry
In a country town
Where the laughter sound

Theme For An Imaginary Western - Mountain
(written by Jack Bruce)
The guitar work in this song just wails, too
A thousand clusterfucks will not kill my tiny light

I personally love the Eddie version, especially the Ebenezer Church verse

summer. naps. lost love.
Weary sun, sleep tonight, go crashing into the ocean
Cut the line that ties the tide and moon, ancient and blue
We take our empty hearts and fill them up with broken things
To hang on humming wire like cheap lamps down a dead end street
Close your weary eyes until the wintertime
And every time we turn away it hits me like a tidal wave
I would change for you but, babe, that doesn't mean I'm gonna be a better man
Give the ocean what I took from you so one day you could find it in the sand
And hold it in your hands again

Cold ways kill cool lovers
Strange ways we used each other
Why won't you fall back in love with me?
There ain't no way we're gonna find another
The way we sleep all summer
So why won't you fall back in love with me?

Combing over Broken Cross I held on you
Haunted by the ghost of something new

Curtains fall, fashions fade, an endless summer over
Another tide to launch an autumn moon over the dunes
There must be a better way to pull a whole apart
To keep a world from caving in
Another way to while away from you, frozen and blue
Close your weary eyes until the wintertime
But everytime we turn away it surges like a tidal wave
I would change but, babe, that doesn't mean I'm gonna be a better man
Give the ocean what I took from you so one day you could find it in the sand
And hold it in your hands again

Cold ways kill cool lovers
Strange way we use each other
Why won't you fall back in love with me?
There ain't no way we're gonna find another
The way we sleep all summer
Why won't you fall back in love with me?

Why won't you fall back in love with me?
