Lera Lynn
A quick 3DD search for Ms. Lynn revealed some discussion from a few years ago but nothing recent, so I thought I'd start a thread.
If you watched Sunday's True Detective season 2 premiere, you probably wondered who that was singing that (almost comically) bleak song in the corner of the dive bar where Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell met. The song is called "My Least Favorite Life," and the singer is a real life, Nashville singer-songwriter named Lera Lynn.
She also performed the (far superior) song "The Only Thing Worth Fighting For" that accompanied the second season's first trailer. (File this under "songs I'm currently obsessed with.") The song was commissioned for the show by the show's creator, and written by Rosanne Cash and T-Bone Burnett, who handles all the music for True Detective.
Her most recent release is 2014's The Avenues, which was critically acclaimed.
Before that she released an EP called "Lying in the Sun," and before that a bunch of stuff I haven't checked out yet.
She is, as they say, easy on the eyes.
For fans of ethereal country/folk, Caitlyn Rose, Pieta Brown, Amanda Shires...

She's great and also lived in Athens for several years. She sang on Patterson's song "After it's Gone" with other Athens musicians protesting the then decision to place a Walmart downtown.

WTF!
Similar to the old Ryan Adams/Bryan Adams double take I thought this was the lady under discussion!!

(nb those well known "cultural differences", or as I prefer to call it "USA insularity", may well kick in to play here )

All of which reminds me, who was it who said that Ryan Adams was a lucky man, just one consonant away from mediocrity?

Maybe you've missed out on the nearly continual, not so thinly veiled insults this asshole has been making towards U.S. citizens since he's been a member of this board. In case you missed it this time, he referred to us as insular.Clams wrote:Am I missing something here?

I'll tell you what I have noticed since I've been a member. That you are one the most humourless individuals I have ever come across.
And you've no doubt never forgiven me for my opinion that such a magnificent band as REM went on a steady decline after Lifes Rich Pageant, reaching a nadir with the ridiculously bad All Around The Sun, hobbling on for a few more years before thankfully they had the sense to split up.
The only people on the planet who seemed oblivious to this terminal decline were you, Mike Mills, and Michael Stipe. In fact it could be said you all took an insular view of things

Guys, please just knock it off. I just don't understand why any of this is necessary. Live and let live.

And anyway, still nobody has answered my Ryan/Bryan Adams query!

I agree guys, I see no reason at all for anyone to ever post any Shonna lyrics (sorry RevMatt)Tequila Cowboy wrote:Guys, please just knock it off. I just don't understand why any of this is necessary. Live and let live.

Thanks for the heads up Duke. I just listened to The Only Thing Worth Fighting For. I'm really diggin' it. Never count Roseanne Cash out!

She is coming to my town tonight so checking her out. Very nice. Drivin and Cryin playing right up the street too.
