3dd hall of fame: 1960s
rules for this thread:
nominate any artist/band from the 1960s.
a single "no" vote from any poster means no induction.
unless the single or multiple "no" poster(s) is just being a dick.
if you choose not to vote, it will be a considered a "yes" vote.
there will be no official tally, just mythical spreadsheets.

Re: 3dd hall of fame: 1960s
The Who
The Kinks
Van Morrison (could be 70s too)
The Yardbirds in various incarnations
John Mayall in at least some incarnations
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Otis Redding
Aretha Franklin
As I said in the other thread, I would put BB, Freddy & Albert King, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Buddy Guy, Willie Dixon etc in this decade
Motown in some fashion either as a "sound" or many of the individual and group contributors
Traffic
Laura Nyro
Nick Drake (could also be the 70s)
Buffalo Springfield
Dusty Springfield

You know I was seriously going to try to add all this stuff up, take votes and do this all official like. I'm kind of confused by this dime but hell I'm game for whatever.

Re: 3dd hall of fame: 1960s
apologies, tc. did not mean to step on your intent.
i won't start any more hof threads.
but for this one, at least.......it will be very selective and supremely black and white/up or down/in or out.
having said that.....
motown does not fit the criteria.....i'm cool with the vibe and all....individuals and group contributors will be considered. but i vote "no" on motown, as a sound.
justification for traffic? i love them, but what did they do to deserve induction into the 1960s 3dd hof?
same for laura nyro...who is she, what'd she do to merit inclusion? i will try not to allow my ignorance to impede her entry, but gimme something to work with here.
i might have a "no" vote coming for dusty....gotta dig in a little there and see what's what. blue eyed, english girl singing soul?
i am fully aware that i may be approaching dick status....if so, call me out...i'm ready to learn something.
a few more nominees....
beach boys
mc5
stooges
allman bros band

How about when it's done we vote on the top 20 to pare it down some for the purposes of the larger exercise?

Influential, no doubt, but don't fit that incredibly confining, limited lens I've pulled out for this exercise.

I would move the Allman Brothers Band to the 1970s seeing as how their first two albums had marginal sales and Live at Fillmore East was released in 1971 and that was the album that really garnished commercial success.

is this a "no" vote for inducting the allman bros into the 3dd 1960s hof?
point of fact......whipping post was on their 1969 debut.

Re: 3dd hall of fame: 1960s
See this is the problem with this thing. A no vote casts out legitimate nominees? I guess I'm lost on the purpose. Also arguing on the decade of the band's inclusion? Shouldn't it be when a band debuts? I'm sorry I thought this could be fun, orderly and do a better job than the fools who run the thing but this is just chaos.

i'm having very orderly fun. everyone's opinion matters. it's just talking shit about music.
psychobilly does not want allmans in for 1960s. his right of refusal and it will stand. at least, in this thread.
unless he can be convinced otherwise.

Re: 3dd hall of fame: 1960s
Is renomination acceptable? Multiple decades? I don't have anyone to add, but would definitely cast my support for many offered.
I'd also push The Who, Stones, Zep, etc to the 70's. Unless we're nominating multiple decades.

I agree with TC that this is going to be tough and at best a flawed system, but the current version is already flawed right?! I'm not issuing a No for the ABB since 1) I'm a huge fan and doing so would be like kicking myself in the balls and 2) they definitely had an influence in the 1960's. Though to be fair I think they were much more of a force and influence from 1971 onward. That being the case, as long as they go in I'm happy

Re: 3dd hall of fame: 1960s
multiple decade nominees are encouraged....might actually get us to the very cream of the crop.
it's simple.....if you think an artist/band deserves nomination for a particular decade, then nominate said artist/band in the appropriate decade thread. if they are strong enough for inclusion in multiple decades, this fact (as decreed by 3dd) will just further illustrate the band/artist('s) overall greatness.
on that note.....

Re: 3dd hall of fame: 1960s
The 60's is the decade where popular music exploded and morphed into a plethora of genre's. So many significant artists and recordings from this period. I will argue that there's almost an exponential growth of influential artist from the 60's and trough the 70's, compared to the 50's. (Not so sure about the 80's and onwards, but that is perhaps just a reflection of my own personal taste). I think the survey will have to take this into account, accepting that there may be more nominees and maybe even more HoF'ers in the later decades. Maybe come up with some kind of "formula" that takes into account how many artists are nominated and how many votes are cast.
