I need to give the Jimbo Mathus some more listens. His last two albums were tremendous but i was a little underwhelmed with Blue Healer. "Shoot Out The Lights" is great btw.vacant wrote:As we head into the home stretch it's looking like my top five will come from:
Clutch: Psychic Warfare
Heartless Bastards: Restless Ones
Jimbo Mathus: Blue Healer
Local H: Hey Killer
My Morning Jacket: The Waterfall
Other good ones this year have been:
Built To Spill: Unteathered Moon
Chris Cornell: Higher Truth
Faith No More: Sol Invictus
Gary Clark Jr: The Story of Sonny Boy Slim
Iron Maiden: Book of Souls
Los Lobos: Gates of Gold
Steven Wilson: Hand.Cannot.Erase

After hearing him play the album in its entirety back in August at the High Watt in Nashville, I got a feeling Joey Kneiser's "The Wildness" will be battling with John Moreland's "High on Tulsa Heat" for the #1 spot in my 2015 album list when it's released on November 20th. Here's a few trailers for it:

I currently have Bottle Rockets' Building Chryslers edging out Isbell's Children of Children for Beast of the Year.

This is from an album that won't actually be out until February. Also, while Skylar may originally be from Virginia, she's presently based in North Carolina.

Billy Gibbons' first solo album, Perfectamundo, which I've heard described as "Latin hip-hop", drops tomorrow.

Not many more new releases still to come now that the Xmas saturation market is in full mode.

Re: 2015 Album Releases
Yep, xmas displays were up in some stores in October, so I guess it seems about time to declare the year over and write our best album lists. No one can actually seriously rate albums released in the past month or two, but that's never stopped us before! But if I do it, I'm going to include anything a year prior to my post, not from jan 1. End of the year records either get screwed or overrated so maybe that's a way to go anyways...

Re: 2015 Album Releases
If I post a list of favorites for the year, it's usually not until the end of January. At Christmas time I usually end up with some new albums. It's still not an ample amount of time to give them their due but at least I'll have a chance to give them a couple spins.
