William Elliott Whitmore's new album, Radium Death, will be released on March 31. You can read about it and stream a track here. I am a big fan of Animals in the Dark, and I have high expectations for this album.

Almost as dismal as the Winter list of new releases they provided a few months back
http://pitchfork.com/news/59016-pitchfo ... ring-2015/
Sure it's not all encompassing, but the disappointingly few records I am looking forward to are limited to Wire, Hot Chip and Sun Kil Moon.

Lyrically they've always been brain dead or pretty close, and being a lyric guy they're one of the few bands I like in spite of that. Personally I prefer Circuital to Z or Evil Urges.
well....... if Circuital grew on you, perhaps this one will as well. that's probably all i'll say about this album..

*shrugs* I know they'll never return to It Still Moves form, so I don't expect it. If the album he a handful of good tunes that translate well live, I'm fine with that. I thought songs like Victory Dance were amazing live.

I mean, DBT is now 11 years past their best three album run, but we all still keep on keeping on. Don't see why MMJ should be any different

Because a) while some DBT albums are better than others, none have been outright embarrassments like EU or Circuital, and b) even DBT's lesser albums have at least 2-3 songs that rank among their best. MMJ haven't produced a song I give a crap about since 2006.

This makes me very happy. No release date yet but imminent as it's up on the Thrill Jockey website.

I need to retract this statement as it was based on only a few of the songs.

This album is a grower and it's good, better than Circuital or EU. Lyrically it's still ...well...but musically it's good. It's the first MMJ album music I've liked in so many years!

Off the top of my head, surely forgetting a bunch of stuff:

1. Alabama Shakes - Sound and Color (Did NOT see this coming.)
2. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Chasing Yesterday
3. James McMurtry - Complicated Game
4. Courtney Barnett - Sometimes I Sit and Think...
5. Sufjan Stevens - Carrie and Lowell
...
20. Seth Avett and Jessica Lea Mayfield Sing Elliot Smith

Need to spend more time with:
John Moreland
Nicki Bluhm & the Gramblers
Mark Knopfler

Top 5 songs:
McMurtry - These Things
Alabama Shakes - Future People
Courtney Barnett - Depreston
Noel Gallagher - Riverman
John Moreland - Heart's Too Heavy

Heard and did not like:
Father John Misty
Kendrick Lamar (I can appreciate it as a statement/art piece, but it's just no fun to listen to...and he ruined the best song, "i")
