Futurebirds (Athens, GA) “Hailing from The Classic City, the freewheeling Futurebirds carved out quite a path over the last few years. Touring endlessly with a dynamic sound, which the guys do like no one else is at the moment, the music evokes memories of R.E.M and Neil Young, with Beach Boys-like harmonies. The ‘Birds release their third full-length album later this year.
i'm gonna hold the beans on this a bit, but i had nothing to do w/ it, musically. it's a friend's band who had already released it as a digital-only release, but it's really good and needs a proper format.
Calexico are back with their follow-up to 2012's Algiers and the 2013 live album Spiritoso. Their new album is called Edge of the Sun, and it features collaborations with Neko Case, Iron & Wine's Sam Beam, Band of Horses' Ben Bridwell, DeVotchka's Nick Urata, Gaby Moreno, Mexican artist Carla Morrison, and others. It's out April 14

I love Garden Ruin (it was my entry point), but I see what you're saying. Feast of Wire is definitely their high water mark.

I thought Algiers was excellent when Ut was released, but I've continually skipped over it in my CD case since then. Still interested in hearing the new one, though .
Mark Kozelek has announced that the next Sun Kil Moon album will be called Universal Themes, and will be out June 2nd via Caldo Verde Records. The Benji follow-up was recorded over this year and last in San Francisco and Hoboken, and features percussion from Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth. The album will contain last year’s one-off “The Possum,” and its B-side “Cry Me A River Williamsburg Sleeve Tattoo Blues.” And the tracklist also contains some more Kozelek gems like “With A Sort Of Grace I Walked To The Bathroom To Cry” and “This Is My First Day And I’m Indian And I Work At A Gas Station.” Thankfully, no War On Drugs diss tracks made the cut. The album artwork is above. Check out the full tracklist and “The Possum” below. http://www.stereogum.com/1739762/sun-kil-moon-announces-new-album-universal-themes/news/
Produced by Will Johnson with contributions from Bonnie Whitmore, Eleanore & Chris Masterson and John Dee Graham among others, how can you not love this?
We call him Scooby Do, but Scooby doesn’t do. Scooby, is not involved

At least you're going into it with an open mind
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

Actually I don't mean to be quite that harsh. I do hope they make a record I like but I've come to the opinion that they are no longer making records that suit my tastes. That really doesn't make them bad because people buy them and like them.

Yep. Biggest fall from grace of any band I've ever loved. For 6-7 years they could do no wrong, now I just roll my eyes every time Yimmy shows up to do his calculated weirdo routine. Circuital sounded like children's music written by an adult with cognitive disabilities. Maybe this will be better.
