Anyone else familiar with this song ? A local Jackson, Tennessee talk show host opened his show with this tune a couple weeks ago and I haven't been able to get it out of my head.
"deals dope out of Denny's, keeps a table in the back"....this song is fantastic.

You know you've made it when Crystalized Movements has covered one of your songs.

I'm really loving this tune (the whole album, really). It's so spare that it's perfect. Gotta love a band that knows how to harmonize.

I like this version better.
"One of the many little rivers called Red Cedar runs through Austin Minnesota where I was born and raised and I remember wading in it, and collecting valuable junk that had been left in it, fantasizing about jumping our bikes over it, trying to remove a beaver dam with a dull axe from a leaky rubber boat in it. This past plays havoc with my present and impacts my future. Rivers always bring it back to me that everything changes and some things change real fast like me and my little life and some things change slowly like rivers and hills and deserts. My present is built out of regret and worry and indescribable joy, it is both an apocalypse of fiery hail and a long boring Tuesday afternoon, but as long as I keep my eyes open it is my present: it is where I live right now." -Charlie Parr

Re: Share a song you love right now
In Iowa that same river is just called the Cedar River (I've seen Red Cedar on some old maps, but never heard anyone use the term).
I grew up 25 miles southeast of Austin, and my grandparents live right along the Cedar about 20 miles straight south of Austin, near St. Ansgar, Iowa. I've spent a lot of time on that river, canoeing, boating, swimming, etc. When I was in college, my buddies and I would get drunk and float down it in tubes, and camp on the banks. This is basically the closest I've ever seen to a song about where I'm from, and it's fucking flooring me.
When you're a music lover from North Iowa, this is a big fucking deal. Fucking nobody writes songs about where I'm from. And to have one this fucking good? That really makes my damn day.

This was a 7" that was given along with the Alabama Shakes record bag, RSD buttons and Dogfish Head analog beer RSD poster, on RSD at my local store. B side is "Delia". Going to hurry home and check it out after work.Barely_Oakely wrote:

After years of not hearing this song, it popped up on the ipod today. Roger Miller's version of Ruby is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard.
