I skip half of Sailor's, easily.

I love the half I don't. I skip maybe two songs on AB.

Sturgill announced via FB that Laur "Little Joe" Joamets was leaving and he wouldn't be touring with the horn section. Basically said Laur wanted a gig where he could stretch out more.

This may have already been discussed somewhere, but the 4-piece lineup that he is touring with right now SMOKES.

Caught their show last night at Red Rocks, and holy shit. I had no idea Sturgill could shred like that. I was skeptical of how they would fare at Red Rocks, without the "big" sound of the horns. But they brought the heat.

Really impressed with this new version of the band - totally reimagined versions of lots of his tunes.

I 100% agree with TW, I was there last night and man can Sturgill play. The band is great, setlist rocked and people ate it up. While I really enjoyed all the electric he played, the handful of solo songs he played on acoustic were outstanding as well. If you get a chance to catch this tour with the striped down line up, do it, definitely different then the past tour but awesome in its own.

What the other guys said. I've now seen Sturgill 4 times and Red Rocks was hands down my favorite. Every time I've seen him it's had a totally different sound and feel. First show was at the Bluebird (maybe 600 people?) and it was pretty country, the songs pretty true to the albums. Amazing show w Sturgill's voice cutting through and shining. 2nd show at the Ogden (1300 people?) and it was much looser. He really stretched out his songs. Dare I call it 'jammy'? Third show was at the Paramount (1900? )w horns and as expected it was a more soulful, Staxx kind of experience. And then there was the sold out RR show last Monday. Motherfucker. I had no idea what a bad ass, shredding guitar player Sturgill is. It was balls out rock and roll w some Waylon Jennings sounding vocals. It literally summoned the power and energy of ZZ Top or Band of Gypsies. Sturgill laying down these heavy, Billy Gibson sounding riffs on a Les Paul?! It was loud, shredding rock and roll w a hint of country mixed in. (to be fair, he did do a small chunk of solo acoustic stuff that was more true to his records)

It was beautiful

The Portland tape is incredible. Well done.

I agree with what everyone said about his recent shows. The MPP show was a top 5 for me this year, with stiff competition. Never realized he could shred like that.

A reporter friend of mine just sent me a picture of Sturgill Simpson standing outside the CMA awards with an acoustic guitar and cardboard signs with magic marker writing which read, "Struggling country singer anything helps...all donations go to the ACLU" and "I don't take requests but I take questions about anything you want to talk about because fascism sucks"!

I watched his Facebook livestream for about 20 minutes, and I have to say it was well worth the watch. Maybe he’d said it before in an interview and I haven’t read it, but apparently he only wants to make two more albums before focusing on other stuff.
