Reliable Record Players? Vinyl People, Help!
I'm brand new to the vinyl world. I purchased a $200 all-in-one record playing system by Electrohome... BIG mistake. It played vintage vinyl great but wouldn't play anything new. I ordered Isbell's Southeastern.. twice.. neither would play correctly. Lydia Loveless's Somewhere Else and Shires's Down Fell The Doves skipped like they were getting paid to. I shipped the player out to be returned today. Does anyone have any suggestions of a fairly priced record player that also plays CDs and has an AUX hook-up? I don't want to make another mistake.. It's not worth the hassle! Any other useful vinyl info would help as well. I'm not very familiar with 'em at all... Just absolutely love the sound quality. Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with your turntable, but skipping and skating (the tonearm sliding around like a car on an icy road) can be caused by a cartridge/tonearm not properly balanced and set up. Make sure the cartridge is properly aligned in the tonearm, tracking weight is set to the tracking force recommended by the cartridge manufacturer, and that the anti-skate (if available) is properly dialed in.

I can give a thumbs up to the Debut Carbon…I replaced my old Technics with this about a year ago and couldn't be happier.
Re: Reliable Record Players? Vinyl People, Help!
Awesome. Thank you for the rec. I think I'm pretty settled on the Debut Carbon. Still kicking around other components.
Re: Reliable Record Players? Vinyl People, Help!
Needle doctor has it for the same price but if you call them you can ask if they're giving any discount (5-10%) If your budget can handle it ask them how much to upgrade to the Ortofon Blue cartridge. Significant difference from what I've read
Always go to the show

This is what I have. The Denon DP 300F. Some people are opposed since it has the auto start and return or whatever it is called, but I have been very happy with it. I like that I can change from 33 to 45 with the push of a button instead of pulling off the platter. It also has the phono pre-amp built in. After a couple of years with the slightly upgraded needles from Music Direct, I pulled the trigger on the shure 97mx(I think) and have been even happier with that improvement.

Just ordered an Audio Technica ATLP-120, which looks similar to a Technics 1200 & has USB capabilities & is one of the few modern midrange TTs with 78RPM capabilities. I'll post my thoughts after it arrives next week.

Also have a pair of Polk Audio bookshelf speakers on the way. All of this to pair with a vintage Marantz 2230 receiver I just picked up. So excited to finally take a step towards better sound after a lifetime of listening to music on subpar equipment.
