Old Thread but w/e. In no order yet it kinda is because one thinks of their favorites in the general order they fit

DBT
Lucero
Slobberbone
The Rollings Stones
The Band
Willie Nelson
Waylon Jennings
Merle Haggard
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit

Glossary is quickly climbing along with JTE, Drag The River and Alejandro hanging on the edge. If I ever get to see Chris Knight he might make the list and Ryan Bingham as well

Update:
Stones
DBT
Todd Snider
Jerry Jeff Walker
The Hold Steady
Neil Young
Petty
The Boss
Pearl Jam
The Band

All others save Dave Matthews are still fairly big for me. I just completely grew out of their music altogether. I still respect them as musicians, but the songs and subject matter rarely hold my attention at all these days.

RevMatt wrote:Tough to limit it to ten, but I'll try. No particular order

1: Drive By Truckers -- their site, they get to be number one.
2: The Rolling Stones
3: The Velvet Underground
4: Neil Young and Crazy Horse
5: Buddy Holly
6: Echo and The Bunnymen
7: The Gun Club
8: Waylon Jennings
9: Hank Williams
10: The Replacements

A bunch of artists I couldn't fit, and tomorrow the list might be entirely different.

Four years later? Beatles are in the top ten. Take Buddy Holly out of the top 10. I don't know what my frame of mind was four years ago that The Beatles didn't make my top ten. Maybe because they weren't in my ipod.

Another change? Maybe swap out The Gun Club with The Cramps. I listen to The Cramps more.

The rest? Pretty much the same. Three bands from the much maligned 80's are in my top ten. On some days Steve Earle is in my top ten, so that would make four bands/artists who got their start the decade I came of age. I think the 80's are an underrated decade when it comes to music.

The other remark I'll make is that Hank Williams earns his spot in my top ten based on number of spins AND my respect for his legacy. I listen to Hank often.

New List:
1) Drive By Truckers
2) The Rolling Stones
3) The Velvet Underground
4) The Beatles
5) Neil Young and Crazy Horse
6) Echo and The Bunnymen
7) The Cramps
8) Waylon Jennings
9) Hank Williams
10) The Replacements
I have nowhere else to go. There is no demand in the priesthood for elderly drug addicts
