That's a little tempting. I'd like to see the Phil Lesh band. The studio record was a cold unbuttered potato but the live one was the real deal. Oh, and the Allman Brothers sound interesting, too.

A friend gave me a copy of something by them live in A&R Studios, I think. It was pretty great. I see why you all like this Duane guy so much.

my copy along with my beacon tickets supposedly shipped yesterday, however w/ the weather we're having here there's no telling when it will get here. I'll post a review after I've had time to listen through it a few times.

The Grateful Dead comment caught me off guard. I always thought the Allmans (and at least Gregg) thought more of them, especially since they've been known to do a Dead number or two in concert.

“Beacon goers: Please be advised that, due to illness, Gregg Allman will be unable to perform on Saturday, March 22,” posted the group. “The Allman Brothers Band will perform as scheduled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. All remaining shows will go on as scheduled.”

I think Butch missed a show or two due to an illness on this Beacon run as well

Jimmy Hall filled in on the show over the weekend that Gregg missed. The set list was pretty epic. They did Can't Lose What You Never Had with Jimmy singing and Kofi Burbridge and some other dude played keys.

I was there for the Friday night show w/out Gregg and had tickets to the Wed night show that was reported to be the 45th anniversary show. To say I was disapointed is an understatement, while the Friday night show was great it wasn't the same w/out Gregg. I hope that they do reschedule like they are claiming they will and I also hope that I'll be able to attend.

That sucks. Disappointed would not be the word I would have chosen. Hope you get that make-up show

This is the photo that ran with the info about today's ABB retrospective on the Sound Opinions site. Can anyone identify the people to Gregg's right and to Duane's left?

Not 100 or ever 50% certain but I think that may be Twiggs Lyndon minus the beard to Dwayne's left.

The guy front and center is Thom Doucette. He used to come into the bar where I worked back in the day. He's one of my favorite harmonica players. I'm trying to get the other name.

Thank you, that solves the mystery. The fellow in the upper left next to Gregg is indeed Dickey Betts, at least according to this link.

I didn't give it a second thought until someone pointed it out to me. When looking back at some old photos of Dickey from that era, I thought that might be him but didn't know for sure.

Word coming out of the Allmans camp today that Brian Farmer, Warren Hayne's long long time guitar tech (and basically Mule's closest equivalent to our dearly departed Craig), has passed. He will be missed.... I just talked with him (very briefly) at a Mule show less than a week ago.

Unfortunately it's true, very sad in many ways. I just saw Brian Friday night when Mule played the Georgia Theatre, lately my wife and I had noted that he didn't seem to be in very good health and looked tired. I'm sure Warren is hurting, they've been a team for as long as I can remember, not to mention that today is the the anniversary of Allen Woody's passing :(

No doubt but I've never allowed that to get in the way of my enjoyment of the music of the Allman Brothers Band on record or in concert, with or without Duane, Dickey, etc.

^^^^^Well that is a surprising turn of events.

"I have no problem with Gregg, never have" - Dickey Betts. I'm pretty sure this is a false statement.

For me the time has come and passed but nice to read anyhow. Thanks for posting.

I'm not 100% sure about this but this may be the only time Gregg has ever sang lead on "Blue Sky". This originally aired on XM's Deep Tracks channel back in 2004 as part of their Then...Again...Live! series where artists performed vintage albums live. Sadly, the series was discontinued in early 2006.

The entire performance.
