if y'all have AXS-TV I highly recommend Gregg's appearance on the Big Interview with Dan Rather. As with the Bob Weir interview, Rather isn't up to snuff, seems like he's making up questions on the fly, but Gregg more than rises above it. He is great in this, could listen to him talk for hours. Talk about scarred but smarter

stumbled upon this earlier and here is as good a place for it as any

This aired on A&E back in 1989. I believe it was the first time I'd heard how Gregg got out of going to Vietnam.

Oh yeah, that reminds me that I forgot to mention the "foot-shootin' party" part of The Big Interview! Always thought Foot-Shootin' Party would be a great band name/album title

I just read that Gregg has cancelled some tour dates and is in the Mayo Clinic. Also that Pete Fountain is dead.

yeah, word is that his health is even worse than usual. Dude probably should retire from the road and go home and enjoy his wife and dogs and try to be as healthy as possible.

Gregg was to headline at Floyd Fest last weekend but had to be hospitalized. Agree with WWCD above.

Well, fuck. It's not fully confirmed yet, but I just have a feeling it's true:

Gregg Allman Enters Hospice

Let's all hope he pulls a Chester and gets one more for the road. Like my friend says, "Believe in miracles, but don't depend on them."

From Gregg's FB page:
A message from Gregg: “Hey everyone. I just wanted y’all to know that I’m currently home in Savannah resting on my doctor’s orders. I want to thank you for all the love that you are sending. Looking forward to seeing everyone again. Keep Rockin’ “

I wish Gregg the best. I had the opportunity to see Gregg solo and ABB, but I wish I could have seen him/them in the 70's!

fuck. For what it's worth, I just read reports from within the last hour where he's denying being in hospice. Hope the best for Gregg, he's had a brutal run of health for some time now

This was a great article. I love the ABB, and I've probably watched Almost Famous on more occasions than any other movie. Thanks for sharing. I had no idea Russell Hammind's character was based on Dickey, but I knew some of the film was influenced by Crowe's time with ABB.

Was anybody at the Peach Festival yesterday or did anybody hear about it? Very curious to hear about how Dickey's set was; also any sit-ins.

As some of you may know, Dickey Betts had to cancel some tour dates after suffering a mild stroke a couple months ago. He was just about recovered and started playing guitar again when another mishap befell him. On Monday, he was playing with the family dog outside when he fell and cracked his head. He is in the hospital now and awaiting surgery Fri. to reduce the swelling in his brain.
Here's hoping he gets better soon. Just awful news.

In the good news dept., Dickey Betts has returned to the stage after his surgery months ago. He sat in with Duane Betts in Macon, GA on Elizabeth Reed. Go Dickey go!

Duane Allman's Gold Top sells for $1.25 million

Duane Allman played the guitar on the first two Allman Brothers records, and on "Loan Me a Dime" with Boz Scaggs, Brent said. The recording "Layla" with Derek and the Dominoes is among the last times Allman played that guitar.
