AOTW 8/5/13 - Rose Windows

Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

AOTW 8/5/13 - Rose Windows

Post by Bill in CT »

Rose Windows is a young band from Seattle that has one album entitled The Sun Dogs out on Sub Pop Records. Their sound incorporates influences such as The Band and Black Sabbath along with Indian, Persian, and Eastern European musics to create a fascinating panoply of aural pleasure.

They covered Frank Zappa's "Cosmic Debris" at Sasquatch this past May:

Rose Windows will be touring extensively from August 24 through October 30. Tourdates are available at the Sub Pop site.

Nice job, Bill.

But I was hoping for Kelly Clarkson.

Trippy, Bill. I hear flute in there, too. 'Heavenly Days' reminds me of Piper at the Gates of Dawn stuff..

Penny, I think that's a pan flute. But, they are incredibly interesting, lots going on in every song.

Nice find, Bill. These guys do have a variety of sounds (is that what panoply means?). I thought I heard a little Zamfir in there, GG.

Thanks for the tip Bill. One of my favorite albums of the year thus far. I've recommended it to many friends, most with positive responses.
