I found The Sword record terribly disappointing

Re: stoner records
I was familiar with some of their older stuff, but the new record (on one listen, mind you) seemed sort of....silly? The music was good, but the lyrics are so eye-roll worthy. I know they're doing the tongue-in-cheek thing, but come ondime in the gutter wrote:what were your expectations?Zip City wrote:I found The Sword record terribly disappointing

Re: stoner records
it's the riff you seek. and the twin leads. and the spirit of the moog. and echos. and space. and thin lizzy and bobby leibling's ghost. total chill vibe and mindset cranked to 11. and some dust in the wind for added measure. and a little funk and shuffle too.Zip City wrote:I was familiar with some of their older stuff, but the new record (on one listen, mind you) seemed sort of....silly? weird, cuz the older stuff is far more eye roll worthy lyricallyZip City wrote:I was familiar with some of their older stuff, but the new record (on one listen, mind you) seemed sort of....silly? but like dime said, theyre not a lyric band at all so i dont care. i like this album for deviating more from the sabbath rehash template theyd done (albeit very well) to death in the past. most of the disappointed reactions ive seen have focused on that, nothing lyrical
Re: stoner records
Well I know what I'm getting with them lyrically, that's true. Maybe I need to listen on a better sound system. The riffage is good, but somehow I'm left wanting more
ETA: They'd be fucking awesome live. I hope they tour here
ETA2: Mist & Shadow rules, and I wish the whole album was like it

Dee dee posted this in the Listening thread yesterday. Sounds like it has potential.

Given the title of this thread, the dates of the 2 posts, the subject matter and the tie-in to the listening thread, the segue between these 2 posts may be the most cosmic thing ever.
