Even more egregious when you consider the lack of Kinks on your initial "one album per band" list.

Yes, I forgot the name of the ablum, but with Perpetual Change

Jimi Hendrix, Electric Ladyland
Jimi Hendrix, Axis Bold as Love
Joe Pass, Virtuoso 2
Paul McCartney, Band on the Run
Beatles, Blue Album

I was born 1962, I'm actually the same age as the New York Mets. Looking at your list, I probably could have included, cortez the killer wrote:GG - Born in '73, I didn't have the pleasure of experiencing these records in the moment. Pink Floyd, Wish you Here and Dark Side
Bruce Springsteen, Greetings from Asbury Park and Darkness at the Edge of Town, and, yes, Born to Run, but I claimed to love Greetings at the time.
My hindsight list would be a lot different. I don't think I joined until Jan 2011 so I missed out on the begining of this post. Probably for the best, I wouldn't have been able to handle it back then.

Re: Favorite Albums of the Decade (The 70s)
I'm sure my list would be different now but I'm not sure it would be any better. But I am shocked that I left out Shoot Out the Lights.
While I'm glad that I at least remembered to include Bowie as an "honorable mention" he really does have to be on any list of the best 70s albums. In retrospect it does seem odd to have a list of 70's albums w/out Elton John on it but there's not a single album of his that I love w/out qualification nor am I sure what I'd take out in order to have him represented. In some moods, I might also try to sneak any early Chicago album on there.
As an observation w/out any real point behind it, I'm pretty sure there's over a 100 million in album sales represented by a mere 5 artists not included on my list:
Elton John
Billy Joel
Chicago
Peter Frampton
Boston

Thanks to Cortez for digging up this thread. This definition of punk rock from the 2010 dime is note perfect. Bravo, dime in the gutter wrote:loud, beligerent, aggressive, anti-"the man", anti-social, angry, obnoxious music played with emotion, energy and defiant swagger.Zip City wrote:i'm now convinced that dime has zero idea what punk rock is

The name of the thread is favorite albums not critically acclaimed landmark albums of the 70's. Who gives a fuck if there are 6 Steely Dan records on someone's list? Hell I believe I have the first two Dire Straits records on my list and I know that sends a certain Scottish snob into a tizzy.
Looks like a bunch of little whiny fucksticks to me

I think you'll find I'm so laid back I'm horizontal about the blandness that oozes out of Mark Knopflers guitar - it's certain other posters on here whose blood pressure goes through the roof at anybody who rails against their musical heroesGator McKlusky wrote:The name of the thread is favorite albums not critically acclaimed landmark albums of the 70's. No blood pressure problems here. In my youth I might have given a fuck but as I'm deep in my dotage I find that my supply of fucks is limited and sadly defending Dire Straits is not worth one.linkous wrote:I think you'll find I'm so laid back I'm horizontal about the blandness that oozes out of Mark Knopflers guitar - it's certain other posters on here whose blood pressure goes through the roof at anybody who rails against their musical heroes

Re: Favorite Albums of the Decade (The 70s)
Never said anyone particular person had all 6 steely dan albums on their list, just found i interesting that all 6 were represented collectively while other artists were omitted altogether. Again, collectively. If someone is too insecure in themselves to admit they loved Goodbye Yellow Brick Road enough to list it in their top 100, well, that's on them.
I love Dire Straits and Mark Knopler's guitar tone too.

not surprising considering how seriously we all take our love of music.

Count me squarely in the " not my thing but I understand the appeal" camp (on most artists). Nothing irritates me as much as not being able (or willing) to separate taste from talent
