6-Pack (1970)
Helluva year, with many tough omissions.

While looking at the album releases from this year, it seems Conway Twitty released about a dozen albums by himself.

Backup 6-pack:
The Velvet Underground - Loaded
The Grateful Dead - Workingman's Dead

Jethro Tull - Benefit
Santana - Abraxas
Backup to the backup 6-pack :

In short, 1970 was a very fruitful year in music. There is something in this year for everybody. What I have listed above is basically why I love music, period.

Re: 6-Pack (1970)
Even though I'm sure I didn't buy them in 1970, Paranoid and Workingman's Dead had to be within the first 8-10 records I ever bought as a kid back in the 70's. A few of the others would have to be Tres Hombres (1973), Killer (1971) and We're An American Band (1973). I had a friend of my Dad's secure a copy of Paranoid for me at the PX at Seymour Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC. My copy of Workingman's Dead came from a place called the Tape Deck located in the same town. I remember entering the store with a friend determined that we were both going to walk out with a copy of whatever album had "Casey Jones" on it. I snagged Workingman's Dead first, which left him with Skeletons From the Closet. Both great albums and both excellent places to start with the Dead but I felt so lucky that I'd beat him to Workingman's Dead. Funny I can remember this sort of thing with such detail but I can't tell you what I had for supper last night...

Re: 6-Pack (1970)
An incredible year and a very formative one for my musical tastes.
Derek & The Dominoes - Layla
Van Morrison - Moondance
Neil Young - After the Goldrush
CCR - Cosmo's Factory
Aretha Franklin - Spirit in the Dark
Delaney & Bonnie - On Tour w/ Eric Clapton
It IS 1970 after all bonus picks:
Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
The Insect Trust - Hoboken Saturday Night (much later discovery)
Randy Newman - 12 Songs
Elton John - s/t
The Grateful Dead - American Beauty
Fairport Convention - Unhalfbricking
You know it's a great year when artists like these release TWO albums like these in the same year:
Grateful Dead - American Beauty and Workingman's Dead
Van Morrison - Moondance and His Band & The Street Choir
James Brown - Sex Machine and Super Bad
Delaney & Bonnie - On Tour w/ Eric Clapton and To Bonnie from Delaney
Miles Davis - Bitches Brew and Jack Johnson
CCR - Cosmo's Factory and Pendulum
Elton John - s/t and Tumbleweed Connection
The Beatles - Let It Be and Hey Jude plus Lennon's Plastic Ono Band and Harrison's All Things Must Pass
Not surprisingly, an amazing year for "special mentions" (collections, live albums and other one offs):
Otis Redding & Jimi Hendrix - Historic Performances Recorded at the Monterey International Pop Festival
Sly & The Family Stone - Greatest Hits
The Who - Live at Leeds
The Beatles - Hey Jude
The Rolling Stones - Get Your Ya Ya's Out
Booker T & the MG's - Greatest Hits
