1982. Wow. Let me just tell you, that the Led Zep and Dire Straits above did not enter my listening realm until my adult years. My 8-year old self was in pop heaven. Some of the above, as well as:
Alan Parson's Project - Eye in the Sky
Michael Jackson - Thriller
INXS - Shabooh Shooboah

Am I that predictable? Yeah I forgot about Special Beat Service or I would have squeezed it in somehow. As for Midnight Oil I assume you are referring to 10,9,8,7.... which I already put in my 1983 six pack. I guess technically it was released in Australia in November 82 but did not reach the US until the next spring which is when I first heard of the Oils so it will always be a 1983 album to me.

No love for Dire Strait's Love Over Gold? C'mon. There's gotta be somebody out there in 3DD land who likes this. Need a refresher course? Listen to "Telegraph Road".

The test here is not "like". A 6 pack is more like Cortez's torture chamber for the musically obsessed. And I say that with love. See Rev Matt's obsession thread. Just using my 6 as an example:

Richard & Linda Thompson - a classic album that will be on almost any marginally responsive list of mine because as beloved as it is among music geeks it doesn't get nearly enough attention in the wider world.

Springsteen, Prince, Costello - Major albums by major artists who are also personal favorites

Crenshaw - A key album by a favorite artist in a favorite genre that I will always go the extra mile to hilite.

Not a lotta room for "like" there.

That's ok, beantown - I guess I'll go to the Dire Straits thread and investigate ;) Seriously, 1982 was pretty good, but for me there are so much better years, where I don't know where to begin because everything is so effin' sick. Take 1970 for example - I chose three 6-packs and probably could easily have chosen a fourth. Just a great year for music.

I like it just fine; in fact I bought it the day it was released and have probably listened to it 100's of times but I like the first 3 a lot more.

By the way Cortez I think Rlipps, BillinCT and I are the only ones who follow the rules. Narrow it down to 6 people; that is the challenge. ;)

Agreed on enjoying the previous three records a lot more. Plus, "Industrial Disease" is one of those songs I'm perfectly ok not hearing again for the rest of my days. That probably comes from hearing it on the radio way too much back in the day but nevertheless it hasn't proved to have much of a shelf life.

I look at it less from a rules perspective & more as a reflection of personality.
