2007 was a great year, but divergent from my fellow 3DD'ers.

Knowing your love of Farrar, I actually went back to check the release date (when I saw it wasn't on your list) to make sure I wasn't wrong about the date. The Search (with all the On Chant And Strum track re-order and bonus songs) hit me in such a way that it's definitely second on my Son Volt/Farrar list, and depending on my mood I might even put it above Trace.

Adding reissues like the Neil live record doesn't count.

I guess it would be up to Cortez to make that call (since this is his thread idea) but I don't see why it wouldn't count. Not to mention it isn't a reissue, at least not to my knowledge. As far as I know it had never been previously available until it came out in March of 2007.

but it was recorded in the 70s....i see these lists as time capsules of a specific year.

So, if I wanted to list The Song Remains the Same as one of my favorite albums of 1976 it would be ineligible since it was actually recorded in 1973?

yes. those songs were recorded earlier (though not that much earlier...the Neil example is far starker).

I'm not getting you here, tin. If it is a time capsule, isn't it a reflection of what new music people were listening to in a particular year, not what new music was played live or recorded in that year? The central idea of,e.g,, "the soundtrack to the best summer of my life/my freshman year in college/my first gropings in a friend's basement/courting the woman who became my wife, etc etc doesn't make sense w/ your interpretation.
What used to be is gone and what ought to be ought not to be so hard
