You sure can stuff a lot of stuff into your six-packs bubba.

Re: 6-Pack (1986)
I love the music of the 80's. I think it tends to get a bad rap due to the overexposure of MTV and how that affected what got played on the radio but beyond that, there's a whole lot of music to enjoy. On the upside it was a time when artists from college radio playlists broke through to album radio (for better or for worse), reggae, ska and two tone reigned supreme, the Paisley Underground surfaced, roots-rock and cowpunk began to rear their ugly heads and gave birth to a blues revival thanks to Stevie Ray Vaughan and Robert Cray. I don't think there had been such an explosion of so many different sounds since at least the 60's. Turn off the Thompson Twins and crank up the Mats...

You forgetting about house and techno as well, but maybe that was deliberate.

I didn't deliberately mean to exclude them but those styles never really tripped my trigger, that doesn't mean they shouldn't be mentioned. My point being, there was much more to the 80's than what was popular on the MTV. I see a lot of people say it was the worst decade ever for music. I have always vehemently disagreed with that.

I just hate the way most of the albums from that era sound.
Which I realize is a pretty dopey generalization, but to my ears records from the 80s have a distinctly "80s" sound.

I think some of them do as well. Plus, you have the dead giveaways such as synths and drum machines. I think one very notable exception is R.E.M. Even though one of their early producers (Stephen Hague) tried to get them to use more modern production techniques, they refused to. I think their refusal to participate in all things 80's gives albums like Murmur, Reckoning and Fables a timeless quality that few other records from that time period have.
For those curious as to what R.E.M. might have sounded like had they ended up working with Stephen Hague on Murmur, here's a demo of "Catapult" from those sessions. BTW, Stephen is probably best known for his work with artists such as New Order and Pet Shop Boys. Cool to hear this demo but I'm very glad they chose Mitch Easter and Don Dixon instead.

Great idea idea for a thread Cortez the Killer. Can't wait to check out 92.
KG, Paisley UnderGround all the way. Thin White Rope and Long Ryder's are in heavy rotation in my iPod. Two of the best bands ever. Did you know the Bangles were part of the Paisley Underground?

Yes, I did. At one time there was a Paisley Underground box set in the works but it fell by the wayside for various reasons. I'm guessing the closest thing we'll ever get to something like that is the Children of Nuggets: Original ARtyfacts from the Second Psychedelic Era - 1976-1996 collection.

If I had 20, I'd edit 'em. For 8 or 11 it's just easier to cut and paste. You don't have to read past 6.
